Infants and Primary
Infants
We had a lovely day last Friday at Kindy Start.
The Kindy Start children spent the whole day at school ably assisted by their Year 5 Buddies. It was wonderful to see the Year 5 children step up and be so responsible and caring in their buddy role.
In the morning, we did a rotation of activities giving the children an understanding of how morning literacy sessions will work next year. We also read the story of the Gingerbread Man. We took a school tour and visited all the important places that students will encounter next year as part of a normal school week; the library, the canteen, the hall, the cooking room and our part of the playground.
After having lunch and playtime with our Buddies we went to the cooking room and baked our very own Gingerbread men, with no escaping Gingerbread Men! We had some time for maths activities and then off to sport with the Kindergarten and Year 1 children.
In the afternoon, we attended the assembly and received our Kindy Start Certificates. It was an exciting and fun day to have the children here all day! We look forward to this Friday and another day of fun.

Year 1
Year 1 have been whizzing through Term 4 and readying themselves to be Year 2s.
We have recently begun a focus on informative texts. The children love sharing their knowledge about animals and places. They are quickly growing in confidence and ability with independent writing and are enjoying their hard work paying off. It has been wonderful to see them all taking pride in the length and quality of their writing. This term we have been engaging in short peer-reading sessions with Year 7 and 8 students, which is an activity we all look forward to. The children enjoy the expertise and praise that comes with the big kids.
In mathematics, Year 1 has been consolidating number operations. They are becoming independent in solving multiplication and division equations by using equal grouping. They are also able to skip count further and further which is helping to solve problems with larger numbers.
In visual arts, Year 1 has been exploring different mediums and one of the class' favourite processes has been sgraffito art (scratch art).

Primary
We have had another fantastic fortnight of learning and fun here at Boorowa Central School. We finally had our first sporting excursion of the year, with boys rugby league and girls league tag travelling to Young last Wednesday for a gala day. All students gave their best throughout the day, especially those who hadn't played before. A big thanks to our St Joseph's Primary School friends who joined us for the boys' rugby league. Our primary boys had a Questacon incursion last week also that taught us all about physics and flight. We had a great time testing and improving paper aeroplanes!
Year 3/4/5
English
In English this fortnight, Years 3/4/5 have been reading 'The Lost Thing' by Shaun Tan. We have used pre-reading strategies to predict what the book would be about then we used graphic organisers to help summarise the book. After this, we wrote some great recounts of the story and look forward to designing our own 'Lost Things' in art over the coming weeks.
Maths
In maths, our investigation of 'Sprouting Surprises' continues, and what a great surprise we got on Monday when we arrived in class and saw that some of our plants had sprung to life, some growing over 15cm tall! Students will continue to observe and measure the changes they see in the plants.
This week we will also be moving on to explore 2D and 3D shapes. Keep an eye out on the School Facebook page for some awesome (and tasty) looking shapes!

Year 5/6 Classroom
English
We have had an intense focus on speech writing this week, specifically on our Role Models. We carefully chose our role models, and crafted speeches to persuade the audience to vote for our role model for an award. The students wrote brilliantly and presented their arguments to the class with confidence and persuasion.
Maths
We have completed a unit on volume this week. We explored how to calculate the volume of simple and complex shapes and how to apply this in real life.
Science
We continue our focus on outer space, and also enjoyed a STEM incursion this week in the school Hall. It's great to have such a good relationship with our STEM Partner Crookwell High School.
Physical Education (PE)/Sport
We have been mixing up our PE and Sport lessons between indoor teamwork games, league tag and touch football. Our skills improve each week. We are beginning to craft our skills towards success as a team.
Art
We are busy preparing for the Year 6 Farewell by creating an outer space theme. We are combining our skills with paint, craft and design by researching the cosmos and making individualised versions of planets, stars and the night sky.
We hope that all families are having an enjoyable Term 4. Please remember that children must wear school wide-brim hats each day - it's going to get hotter and hotter!
A reminder that:
- Year 6 formal assembly is on Monday 14 December 2020 at 2:00 pm. Parents of Year 6 students only can attend.
- Year 6 formal evening is on Tuesday 15 December 2020. Year 5 and 6 students only are invited to attend.
As always, our doors are open if you would like to discuss anything!
