Principal's Report
Mr Graham Jones
As you have now hopefully seen on our Facebook page and in the letter sent home to all families, the annual Boorowa Central School Presentation Night for 2020 has been modified.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, we are unable to accommodate all staff, students, parents and special guests for our Presentation Night. Therefore, the decision has been made, in the interests of health and safety, to move the presentation to school hours and restrict attendance to students and staff only.
The presentation assembly will be live-streamed on the Boorowa Central School NSW DEC Facebook page and will be available to watch after the event. Photos of award recipients will also be taken and shared. Hopefully, through the use of technology, you will still feel a part of the event and share your child's success. Families of student's receiving an award will be notified by mail before the event.
Thursday and Friday this week marked the official end to schooling for the Year 12 class of 2020. The Year 12 Graduation Assembly was an emotional event as we reflected on 13 years of schooling at Boorowa Central School. I am proud of this cohorts effort to make it to the end of Year 12 despite the impact of COVID-19 and the challenges some individual's navigated their way through. As I write this I am looking forward to tonight's formal. The Hall is looking spectacular so I am sure the evening will be thoroughly enjoyable.
To Year 12, every journey, be it around the corner or across the world, starts with the first step. What step will you take?
All the best for your future.
Boorowa Central School has been successful in it's plan to establish a Special Education class in Primary. After a lengthy process, I was able to prove the need for a specialised classroom with a specialist teacher and trained Student Learning Support Officer's (SLSO's) to meet the needs of some of our students. The recruitment process for both the Teacher and SLSO's is underway and I hope to fill these roles for the beginning of 2021. The successful candidates will then have the first 5 weeks of next year to prepare their teaching space, build rapports with the children and gradually transition the children into the new class. It is an exciting new addition to Boorowa Central School and I am looking forward to seeing the students thrive in their new setting.
Kindy Start has its 4th and final day tomorrow in preparation for 2021. Every one of the students has thoroughly enjoyed their learning adventures with Mrs Proudford and are looking forward to coming to 'big school' next year.
The 3rd and 4th days of Year 7 transition took place on Thursday and Friday. It was great to have such a large number of students attending the transition days and I am hopeful that each of the students has enjoyed their taste of secondary schooling at Boorowa Central School. I had the pleasure of running a team-building activity with the 25 students in the Hall and they all performed admirably on their individual and group tasks.
The Year 7 2021 Parent Information session is being held at the Ex-services club at 6:30 pm on Monday 23 November 2020. This session is for parents to ask any questions they may still have regarding secondary school and to meet me, Mrs Hawkins (Deputy principal) and the Year 7 advisor. Additionally, I have invited two P&C members who have children currently in Year 7 to provide an insight into what to expect. I hope to have the opportunity to meet with as many parents as I can on the night.
Boorowa Central School has agreed to work in partnership with the Boorowa Early Education (BEE) Centre to offer the Outside of School Hours Care program and Vacation care program to all the Primary school-aged children of Boorowa. The BEE centre will be facilitating each program, Boorowa Central will be providing the facilities to operate the program. I am excited to have the opportunity to further support the children and families of Boorowa through this partnership.
The Boorowa branch of the Bendigo Community Bank is offering two scholarships this year of $5,000 each. One for University and one for TAFE costs. It is the first time this scholarship is being offered to our local students. The scholarships are for school leavers. I strongly encourage all of our Year 12 students to apply for these grants. Thank you to the Boorowa Community Bank for supporting the children of our town.
Only 5 weeks until Christmas
