Year 6 Orientation for Year 7

Year 6 enjoyed a great day of preparation for high school yesterday, led by Mrs Warsop. The day began in the Robson Auditorium, hearing from key members of the College Executive who will play a bigger role in their lives in 2021, such as the Director of Wellbeing, the Director of Curriculum and the Director of Co-curricular. Next, students participated in a ‘scavenger hunt’ around the College campus, focusing on finding their way to less familiar parts of the College they may not have encountered while in the Junior School. After that, they moved through several short sessions focusing on topics like locker usage, homework and study tips, and problem solving. The day ended with a Q&A back in the Robson Auditorium, helping to clear up some of the mysteries both big and small about this important transition.

Parents with older children may remember that the College usually runs a parent orientation to high school session around this time of year, but given the current circumstances, as mentioned last week  this will take the form of a simplified online presentation in 2020. This will be shared with Year 6 parents before the end of term.

Year 6 Thanksgiving Mass

Also mentioned last week was the upcoming Year 6 Thanksgiving Mass, which will take place as planned on Tuesday of Week 8. As parents and family members are not able to join us in the Chapel, a video of the Mass will be shared after the event. Look out for this next Thursday.

Student Reports and Optional Parent/Teacher Interviews

Junior School Academic Reports will be posted online via the Sentral Parent Portal by Friday 27 November. In order to access their son’s reports, parents will be required to log on to the Sentral Parent Portal, select their son’s name and then select Published Reports. Parents may view and/or print the report. Only parent accounts can access student reports. Parents who have forgotten their passwords can click ‘forgotten your username or password’ link on the Sentral Parent Portal login page.

It is strongly advised that parents download and save all their sons’ reports in a secure electronic home file as well as maintain printed hard copies of the reports in a secure place at home.

If, after reading your son’s report you would like to discuss further with the class teacher, you may wish to organise an optional interview.

These optional Junior School Parent/Teacher interviews will be held on the morning and evening of Monday 7 December, from 8.00am to 11.00am and from 3.00pm to 6.00pm. All interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams, either via a link emailed to the parent by the class teacher or by the teacher “calling” using the student’s Teams account.

For Junior School students, these optional interviews are organised by emailing a request to the class teacher directly.
