Drama Matters
Students in Year 10 have been writing Political plays based around real events. They have studied the techniques of Documentary Drama, Brecht and Verbatim. The two groups explored very different events and then used a range of re-enactments, interviews, ‘direct address’ and multi-media to get their point of view across and investigate the relevance to our society and to themselves. Each group chose their own material to research and create a play with. These were:
- The Adam Goodes controversy, Indigenous Rights & Black Lives Matter
- The Challenger Disaster with links to the myth of the American Dream

As we move into the middle part of the term, I hope you are enjoying the videos of our Ensembles. Again, although it would be preferable to have live performances with an audience for the students, it is every bit as serious as a concert. Look out for our offerings this week. I am trusting for advice regarding live concerts at school in 2021 to be forthcoming as we see audiences return to some of our professional venues.
The PAPA AGM will be held online Monday 9 November. A link will be emailed on Monday. This is a particularly important meeting as the positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer are vacant. PAPA is a very important and active group who have provided much needed support to our performing arts students. It would be great to have parent involvement especially from some of our newer parents.
On that note I would like to publicly thank Odette Shahady (President), Ute Apenzeller (Treasurer) and Barb Turner (Secretary) for their service to PAPA and St Pius. There have been many notable achievements over their time, from the expansion of the Ensembles to the purchase of world class musical equipment and to their support during performances. Thank You.
I was involved in the virtual Orientation for our new Primary and Year 7 students. A new way of providing this information, but again I was able to field questions in our Q & A live discussion section of the Orientation. I certainly am looking forward to meeting our new students in 2021 and incorporating them into our activities at SPX.
Please see the invitation below for parents to the PAPA AGM on Monday 9 November at 7.00 pm, online via TEAMS.
