school life

foundies are back!

We are so excited to be back at school with our friends. All of the Foundies has settled in extremely well this week. As we come to the end of our first week back on-site, there are some very tired faces going around (mainly the teachers) but they are defiantly happy tired faces.

On Monday, we had a chance to just play in the classroom and interact with real life people again; not just faces on a screen!

Every day at about 10am, we are coming together as a class for circle time and playing some fun community building games. This is an opportunity to get to know one another again, re-build relationships and work on our social skills before being set free in the yard at recess. This is something that as Foundie teachers we are prioritising to ensure we are supporting all of our little ones to re-enter the social world confidently and with skills that could come in handy, may problems arise in the yard.

Something that has blown me away as a teacher is the confidence and excitement so many in my class have around reading. Yesterday we had the chance to do some independent reading and then to read a book to some of our classmates. At the end of the session, I announced to the class that I was almost crying with emotion due to how proud I was of them. As a teacher, we normally see steady progress throughout the year. For Foundation, Term 3 is where skills like reading can often take off. This year, obviously, this has still been happening but I have not witnessed it as much. It was so amazing to see all the progress in the flesh.

This term is going to be sensational!

book week

On Thursday 22nd October we will be celebrating Book Week with a dress-up day.

On this day we ask students to come dressed as their favourite book character or based on the theme, ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’.

We’re so excited that all students will be back at school to join in the celebrations and can’t wait to see what creative costumes they come up with!
