Green Team News

NHS Enviro Week, 26-30 October

Whilst we may reminisce about our days planting trees with Landcare and staying at the wonderful Camp Boho, we are still going forward with a new kind of Enviro Week. Come and help us brainstorm what this year's Enviro Week will look like. We are pushing it back from the usual date in the hope that we may have all students back on campus! Join us for our green team meeting this Friday to share your ideas. Make your suggestions on the myNHS Green team blog or email Paula.Andreovski@education.vic.gov.au for meeting passcodes.

National Recycling Week, 9-15 November

When you are back in school this term, look out for our reinvigorated recycling processes! You will be pleased to see that we now have a new bin management system for the whole school. Using the 4 differently coloured and marked bins, we hope to make waste management more sustainable and convenient. We have increased the number of bin stations throughout the school, giving you more options for responsible disposal. The best way to reduce waste is to refuse single use plastics and to consider your consumption. However, responsible disposal makes a big difference in what goes to landfill and Green Team hopes to spread the word. There will be signs and other activities to help remind you of the bin colours to divert your waste, including:

  • Green bins for organics to be placed at canteen
  • Red bins for landfill
  • Yellow bins for recyclables .

More to come on this, including National Recycling Week, 9-15 November

so stayed tuned!

Ozgreen and Darebin Council “Youth Leading the World Congress”

Best of luck to our green team members joining the Ozgreen and Darebin Council “Youth Leading the World Congress” ! This is a wonderful opportunity for our members to participate, communicate and collaborate with other local school enviro groups towards a plan of action for real change! We look forward to sharing their experience with you in the next newsletter.
