Project compassion

Every year, the Project Compassion fundraising initiative is launched by Caritas Australia on Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. On Shrove Tuesday, we accompanied Mrs Murphy, Lachy Bywater and Ella Fracaro from Year 11 to attend a launch event at Newman College, along with over 100 other students and teachers from Catholic schools across Perth.
The day was presided over by the engaging Mrs Finneran, and we learned about the work of Caritas Australia. The theme this year for Project Compassion is ‘A Just Future’. We were invited to speak at the forum about some of the social justice initiatives within our College such as our Pilgrimage program, Live Simply day, and the upcoming Twilight Retreats. Later in the day, Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Timothy Costelloe, which was a privilege to experience.
It was very insightful to learn about social justice and the work of Caritas, and we would like to encourage our community to support the Project Compassion campaign throughout Lent.
