SAK & Garden
Welcome 2017!!
We started the year with a jungle in the garden. Students were super excited to get through the vines that were taking over the garden, most of these were self-seeded pumpkins from the compost. We are now at the tail end of re-opening the garden for all to explore.
This year I have the privilege of teaching grade 2, 3 and 4 in the garden. Grade 3 / 4 started with tool safety and weeding and Grade 2 started with small tool training and also weeding. You may also notice that we have a wonderful irrigation system which is why the garden did not need watering and is looking so green.
Over the next weeks we are focusing on planting from seeds, seed collecting and soil condition in preparation for our next season. We have picked and dried oregano if you haven’t done it yet, now is the time to do it.
I would like to say a special thank you to everyone who has volunteered so far, it makes life in the garden for me and the students much more enjoyable.
I would like to also mention that we will have a market stall from time to time with produce we don’t use or need. We welcome the community to share some of their excess produce for us to use or sell. The money that we make from the stall always goes straight back into the SAKG program to buy extra produce, plants, chicken food etc.
If you would like to donate produce or volunteer please don’t hesitate to call or message me on 0409 514 568.
Market Stalls will be posted on compass when we have them.
Enjoy the great weather, summer is nearly over!!!
