Students applying for medicine in 2019 and beyond

2019 Year 12 students who intend pursuing medicine at UWA and Curtin University will need to sit a UCAT exam in July.  It was previously known as UMAT.  The UCAT will be like UMAT but it will now be a two-hour computer-based test.   UCAT will assess a range of mental abilities identified by universities as important to practicing in the fields of medicine / dentistry / clinical sciences.  Students should prepare for the test using free official practice materials which have been developed by the UCAT Consortium of Universities to support test preparation.  See - https://www.ucatofficial.com/ucat-anz/preparation/

Registration opens on the 1 March. For more information go directly to the UCAT official website - https://www.ucatofficial.com/ucat-anz/test-format/

Year 10 School Entrepreneurship Program

In Term Two, Year 10 students were given $20 of start-up capital to create, launch and operate their own venture over the course of a school term.  Fifty-six students successfully completed the program.  Students had to complete a Business Plan and learn a range of other important enterprise skills such as managing finances, marketing a product or service and teamwork.

Below are photographs of the top performing group setting up before 7.30am each morning.

Students who participated were asked what they learnt from the program.   Some comments were:

“There was a lot more work that goes on behind the scenes.”

“Understand and know your market.”

“Hard work pays off.”

“People more health conscience than thought.”

“If you don’t look professional you don’t get customers.”

“That running a business is hard.”

“It is challenging to get everyone in the group to agree.”

“We learnt that we need to put in a lot of effort, and to make sure we have a good team.”

“The importance of ordering products earlier.”

Those students who successfully completed the program gained the following enterprise skills: project management, financial literacy, teamwork, communication, global citizenship, creativity and innovation, problem solving, critical thinking and digital literacy.
