Beyond the classroom and into the community
Students volunteer for Coffee Club at Mercy Place Mont Clare, a residential aged care facility in Claremont. This placement is part of the John XXIII College’s Christian Service Learning program, Roncalli Service. One of the highlights of the program is the sense of reciprocal learning.
Year 8 News
Well done to Year 8 students who donated generously to the St Vincent De Paul and Shopfront Christmas Appeal. It was great to see the College as a whole, support this initiative to help those less fortunate during this special time.
The best of luck to Year 8 students who will sit their examinations next week. All students were reminded of different study tips and techniques during their assembly on Monday.
Our final community gathering will be a Liturgy of the Word for Year 8 on Friday 30 November at 8:00am in the College Chapel. All are most welcome to come along.
The school year finishes at 3.10pm on Friday December 7 and I am sure all students are looking forward to the commencement of their summer holidays.
Ms Rita de Faria
Assistant Deputy Principal Year 8
Men and Women for Others
Thank you to all who have contributed goods or money to the Shopfront Christmas party.
Your generosity is very much appreciated.
Year 7 Learn to Row & 2019 Rowing Information night
Over the last four weeks 85 Year 7 students have been participating in a Learn to Row program. Persevering through some strong afternoon winds and warm days, our resilient Year 7 students have learnt the art of sculling in Quads, Doubles and Singles at the John XXIII College shed, located at Canning Bridge.
The Learn to Row program offers the Year 7s an opportunity to try rowing before signing up as members of the 2019 Year 8 Rowing Squad.
To hear more about the 2019 Rowing Program, all Year 7s and their parents, regardless of participating in the Learn to Row, are invited to the information night held at the GBLT on Monday 19 November, starting at 7:00pm.
School drop-off and pick-up - making it active and safe
John XXIII College endeavours to ensure the safety of our students and wider John XXIII College community, especially during drop-off and pick-up times.
All parents and child care providers should be familiar with the Colleges pick-up and drop off practises, parking rules and routines. As well as discuss and practise safety rules with your children.
Our students also play an active role in ensuring safety of others as well. We love that we have some active commuters to the College, including many cyclists. However, they have a responsibility to ensure the safety of our John XXIII College Community, and we would like to take the opportunity to remind cyclists that they should be adhering to the following:
- Children on footpaths can be unpredictable. Cyclists should slow and cycle to the conditions.
- Cyclists must ride in single file on footpaths.
- Pedestrians, including mobility scooters and motorised wheelchair users, always have right of way.
- Cyclists should use their bell to alert other shared path users that a bicycle is approaching.
- Drivers must give way to cyclists at driveways, but cyclists should slow down to ensure they have been seen.
We want to ensure that all members of our College community can arrive and leave safely. We thank you for your cooperation.
