Around The Primary

Dear Parents

This morning the Years 3-6 students celebrated Mass in our beautiful College Chapel and it was wonderful to have many parents and grandparents join us too. Special thanks to Miss Dernie, Mrs Haydon and Year 4G for preparing the special prayers, songs and reflections about the importance of family and how God created our families to love and care for each other.

The Plenary Council 2020 is an opportunity for all Australians to listen to God by listening to one another. The Church wants to hear from all Australians and it is vital that our young people, who are the future of the Church have their say.

Our Years 5 and 6 students were supported by the Year 10 Student Leaders in a process of listening and dialogue and have provided their feedback to the Plenary Council. More information about the Plenary Council 2020 can be found here: http://plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/

On Wednesday 21 November at 6:00pm the ensembles of the Primary will perform in the beautiful surrounds of the Primary Amphitheatre. Featuring performances from Wanju Voices, Primary Singers, the Year 5 and 6 Bands, string orchestra and Mini Minors – as well as some Christmas Carols – this concert is not to be missed! Everyone is welcome to come along!!

Just a reminder, PP – Year 3 swimming lessons commence on Monday. The children are certainly getting very excited about making a big splash at Claremont Pools.

Kind regards

Super Slime

On Tuesday this week, both Year 4 classes had the experience of making two different types of slime: Fluffy slime (from a Youtube clip) and the proper chemical slime using borax and guar gum. Fluffy slime uses shaving cream, bathroom foaming soap, craft glue and moisturiser.

We took notes from the Youtube clip about the procedure to make fluffy slime to make sure we got the steps correct. Each one of us was able to make a sample of both fluffy slime and chemical slime.

My mum, Chrissy (Mrs Holly) generously organised the activities for us and brought in student teachers from Edith Cowan University. Some kind Year 4 parent helpers also assisted in guiding our groups. We all made amazing slime and it was so much fun!

The Future is Solar

On 13 November Mr McGlew (my Dad) visited our school to teach us about solar panels, including how they are made and how they work. After learning about solar panels, we were lucky enough to build a solar powered race car. After building and testing our cars, it was race time! We went outside onto the basketball court and raced them three times. We were surprised at how fast the cars went when they were put in direct sunlight.

Thank you to my Dad for taking the time to share your knowledge and expertise with Year 4. We had such a wonderful time!

Joshua McGlew (4G)

Young Engineers

Every Wednesday after school, a small group of Years 4-6 students gather in the ICT lab to learn about engineering and robotics. This extra-curricular opportunity known as ‘Young Engineers Club’ is provided by Chee Wong from e2 Young Engineers Perth. In Term 4, our students have been learning about the mechanics and programming of sand strainers, carousels, metronomes, cars and forklifts. For the rest of Term 4, they will be working on cranes, a Lego maze and a very complicated lottery machine (think Bingo!).

If your child will be in Years 4-6 next year and would be interested to participate, please make contact directly with Chee on 0423 267 517 to make arrangements. There is a fee for participating.
