Model UN Conference at Monash University

On the 31st May, Dromana College students, from Years 9 to 12, participated in a Model United Nations Conference as part of Law Week at Monash University. The topic "The heat is on", addressing climate change, created a fierce debate between the member states, which were represented by schools including Dandenong, Mornington, Pakenham and of course your Dromana College. The countries we represented included the Solomon Islands, the Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia, which all created valid arguments to fight for the best outcome for their state.

The function of a Model UN Conference is to encourage active citizenship, through the means of experiencing a conference similar to what member states face to resolve global issues at a UN summit.

The students who participated and had a fantastic time were:

Saudi Arabia - Oscar Wycisk Year 10, Georgia Brough Year 12, Jamie Woods, Year 12

Russian Federation - Miller Keys, Year 12, Leela Subramaniam, Year 12

Solomon Islands - Grace Cosgriff-Camm Year 9, James Read Year 9, Liam Porter Year 9, Patrick Macdonald Year 9.

Congratulations HABIT 50 Readers

Well done Joel Fraser, Tyra Apostolopoulos, Riley Hellyer and Charlotte Parker who have read the equivalent of fifty books already this year and are now immortalized on the HABIT 50 board in the library.

HABIT stands for ‘Have a Book In Tow’ and is the Year 7 wide reading program which encourages all students to always have a novel with them for extracurricular reading.

A fabulous effort by these students.
