Principal's Report

Term 2

Term 2 has been a wonderful success to date and the tone around our school and the focus on learning, as we prepare for the end of Semester 1, is fantastic.  It has been a very busy time finalising assessments and writing reports.  The College continues to refine its reporting practices and processes which involves the regular collection of feedback from parents.  Although there has been some short term pain, the long term benefits will be immense.

Semester 2 has commenced well and the college transition process around this time of the year are excellent.

College Senior School Production

Congratulations to the Performing Arts students and Ms Kirsty Dare, our Drama teacher, on the senior production of ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’. I enjoyed the performance and I would like to congratulate the many students who rehearsed, performed, stage managed and supported the cast and crew.  I am sure those members of the college community who had the opportunity to see the performance would agree that the acting, costumes, sets, lighting, sound and direction of the production were outstanding.  Well done.

Rehearsals have commenced for the Junior School Production, ‘Trolleys’ organised and directed by Carole Patullio.

Exams

The Years 10, 11 and 12 examination period commenced on Monday 30 May 2016.  All students studying a Unit 3 & 4 VCE subject completed the General Achievement Test (GAT), which is an essential part of the VCE assessment procedures, and practice exams in all subject areas.    The primary purpose of assessment is to improve student understanding and performance. Students will have their exam results to reflect on and an opportunity to reassess and refocus their academic goals for 2016. Everyone can learn from these assessments and take time to discuss with their teachers’, areas for improvement, which is an important part of learning.

My First Term

The Year 7 students enjoyed a ‘My First Term’ celebration on Tuesday 17 May 2016. The evening was very well attended by students and parents, and provided an excellent opportunity for parents to interact and meet in a less formal environment with their child’s teachers.  The presentations made by the students of their work both in the classroom and to the audience in the Design Centre were fantastic.  Congratulations to Mr Murray Sydenham and the Year 7 team for organizing the evening and thank you to all who were able to attend.

I would also like to thank Karla Metcalf, President of the Parents and Friends Association, and other members of the P&F for providing supper on the night.
