Year 7

Year 7 Retreats

Over the past two weeks, the Year 7 Students have been participating in their Year 7 Retreats, the theme being ‘Effort, Initiative and Transition’.

Having recently transitioned into secondary school, leaving the familiarity of primary school behind, students reflected on the transitions they have been through, continue to go through and possible future transitions. The retreat provided an opportunity for them to reflect on their lives, their commitments and what they consider to be priorities. Students were challenged by several stories of individuals putting others before their own needs, namely St John Baptiste de la Salle. Learning about his life and his story, the boys re-enacted De La Salle’s life before reflecting on how they may follow his footsteps at St James.

There were plenty of icebreakers and games enjoyed throughout the day, and plenty of friendly competition between the boys. The students also wrote themselves a letter, to be opened at Year 10 Camp/Retreat, which will provide a valuable reflection on their growth and change from Year 7 to Year 10.

Overall, the retreats were thoroughly enjoyable for all and, in this busy time, provided a good opportunity to spend some time out of the classroom. Across the four retreats we had 15 Year 10 Lasallian Youth Leaders help out, a massive thank you to all these boys for enriching the retreats and making them more enjoyable for the Year 7 Students.
