Preshil Careers Program

Year 10 work experience

We’re always on the lookout for Preshil community members who might be able to offer a work experience opportunity to our Year 10 students. We have set aside the final week of Term 3 Monday 17 to Friday 21 September, so please contact me if you can help and would like more information.

Year 10 is the year most Australian students get a taste of working life through undertaking work experience. Work experience is an important short-term placement with employers to provide insights into the industry and the workplace in which they are located. It provides students with the valuable opportunity to:

develop employability skills

explore possible career options

understand employer expectations, and

increase their self-understanding, maturity, independence and self-confidence.

Careers and pathways elective 2018

We would love to hear from and past students who might be willing to come in and talk to our students about their chosen pathways.

If you would like to share your experience about going to university, further study, taking a gap year and/or what your current career and aspirations are and how you got there, please contact me to arrange a time to chat.

All our Year 10 students participate in Careers and Pathways later in the year during our electives program on Wednesday afternoons during Term 2 and 3.  The goals of the Careers Program are to assist students to:

understand and manage influences relating to career planning and lifelong learning;

develop skills, knowledge and capabilities to make career decisions through critical thinking, inquiry and research;

apply their learning to achieve educational and career aspirations;

build resilience in their capacity to manage change throughout their lives.

These goals are organised into three Stages of Career Development:

Self Development: students understand themselves and the influences on them, build their experiences and achievements and develop their capabilities.

Career Exploration: students locate, investigate and consider opportunities in learning and future work options.

Career Management: students make and adjust Career Action Plans and manage their life choices, changes and transitions.
