Principal's Report

Semester 1 Reports

Semester 1 Reports will be released to families via Compass on Friday 28th June. These reports will provide families with information on the learning behaviours of your child, their progression on the Victorian Curriculum (7-10), their achievement in Units of Learning (7-10) and Outcomes (11-12) and their CAI/SAC results. To delve further into how your child has gone throughout the semester, families are encouraged to look at their learning tasks on Compass. These tasks will provide you with more detailed feedback on what your child has achieved and what they need to do next in order to move along the learning continuum. This may appear as a written comment or as an assessment rubric attached to the CAI/SAC.

We encourage students and their families to use the holiday period to reflect upon their Semester Report and the ongoing feedback that teachers have been providing via Compass. The student can then use this feedback to consider what they could do during Semester 2 to build further upon their learning

Year 11 Northern Territory Tour

This Saturday 22nd June we farewell 82 Year 11 students and 9 staff as they board their early morning bus and head off on their 15 day tour of the Northern Territory. Our students will have the opportunity to explore our amazing country and witness some spectacular sights and breathtaking environments as they make their journey through the Northern Territory to reach their final destination at Darwin. Students always return from this camp praising the experience, the friendships and the memories that they have made after spending 15 days together. I am sure that this years Year 11 students will also return having made life long memories. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our 9 staff for taking our students on this trip and, in particular, Ms Elaine Nieva and Ms Emily Lewis who been working behind the scenes, planning and organising this trip for our students.

Big Freeze

As part of their VCAL Personal Development Skills class, the Year 12 VCAL students organised ‘The Big Freeze at Wantirna’ on Thursday 13th June. This massive event was a day of action to raise and donate money towards finding effective treatments and, one day, a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The colour theme of the day was blue, and students from all year levels turned up in their blue clothes to ‘Freeze Wantirna’. During lunchtime students and teachers gathered on the lower oval to take part in this whole school event where there was a staff versus students football game, blue themed food and a giant ice bath! With loud encouragement from the crowd, students and teachers submerged themselves in the ice bath to show their support. Our VCAL students should be extremely proud of what they have achieved in organising this event. We have not heard the final figure yet, but based on the number of MND beanies sold, competitions, food purchases and donations, I am sure that the VCAL class will be able to make a significant donation towards MND research. Congratulations to Mr Anthony Cotton and the whole Year 12 VCAL class on such an incredible event.

2019 Performing Arts Showcase

The Performing Arts Showcase wrapped up this week with yet again more outstanding performances by our students. I have been attending these events for a number of years now and it always amazes me how quickly our students grow in their skills and confidence when performing. Some students that I saw perform only two weeks ago, performed again this week and their performance had risen to the next level. This highlights our students dedication and constant crafting of their skills. This of course would not be possible without an amazing Performing Arts Team. I would like thank Mr Danny van Bergen, Leader of Performing Arts, and all the Performing Arts teachers for teaching and instilling their passion for the performing arts with our students.
