A Fond Farewell

It is with great admiration and gratitude that we thank two of our music teachers for their service as they depart at the end of this term.  Having commenced at the College in 2010, Michael Evans Barker is a prolific and professional teacher of percussion, the likes of whom are rare to find.  He is also a regular performer all over Victoria and most notably is as comfortable playing Timpani, Vibraphone or Drum kit, in a Symphony Orchestra, Jazz or Rock Band.  His ability and dedication to guide young musicians like Old Collegians Nancy Zheng (who has now completed Masters in Performance at Sydney Conservatorium of Music) and last year’s drum kit hero, Alec Jagger, have brought a whole level of expertise and exemplary standard to our department for which we are grateful.

Over the past two years we have had the pleasure of working with Mr Darcy Henderson as our trumpet teacher. His enthusiasm for music, his care for his students and his notable playing skills have given new students a great start and established students’ extension into the next level of playing.  Darcy concludes his contribution to our Music Faculty at the end of this year as he prepares to move back to his home town of Sydney and continue in his musical career there and beyond.

Whilst we will miss both fine teachers we wish them well, will stay in touch and look forward to return visits and collaborations in the future.

The College is in the process of interviewing teachers and parents may expect for lessons to commence as per usual at the start of Term One 2020.
