Welcome back to 2021! We are so excited to be back on campus and teaching the students face-to-face. What a challenge we had in 2020 however we are very happy to be back with a new curriculum, new technology and a new VCD/CDM area to further enhance the learning of the students and prepare them for future successes. I would like to thank everyone who was involved with the refurbishment particularly Marc Johnson, Michael Morrissey and Vince Morabito as well as other staff members who supported the vision for a new learning space. We have already seen the benefits and improvement to student engagement and their appreciation for this area.
We are also very excited to have John McCabe return back to his beloved classroom and teach the boys Art in Years 7 and 8. I know they are very happy as they continue to learn about art gallery spaces, traditional drawing techniques and share his love for the curriculum.
As a department, we have a lot of successes to celebrate. The boys have been very lucky to be featured in a number of galleries and publications. Shared Stories saw Andre Almodiel, Anthony Pham, Antony Limeira-Beaton, Cairns Lowe, Dylan Kilgower, Matthew Jameson, Roberto Di Giovine, Sean Vargas, Steven Tran and Tristan D’Souza have their artwork published in this anthology. Andre Almodiel, Cairns Lowe, Joseph Dinh and Thomas Nguyen have had their artworks accepted into the AEC exhibition. Staff, students and their families will be invited to celebrate on Thursday 18th March at 6pm at the Catholic Leadership Centre (subject to restrictions).

The Art and Technology areas included in the exhibition are Art, VCD, Photography, Ceramics/Sculpture, Multimedia, Digital Art, Systems Engineering, Food and Technology, Product Design and Technology – wood, metal, plastics and textiles.
Steve Emmett and I would also like to congratulate the outstanding success of our Year 12 students from 2020. The challenges and hurdles they overcame to achieve very strong results in their practical work, their theory responses and their final exams. Kyle Truong achieved a very strong study score of 38 in Studio Arts and Tomas Hickey achieved a study score of 40 for Visual Communication Design, the top results in these subjects. We are very proud of their achievements and wish them the very best for their futures along with all the other Year 12 students.
A big thank you to all staff members and students for their additional efforts this week in quickly adapting to the three-day remote learning program. I know it has been a challenge and we don’t know what the future holds however working as a team, staying positive and supporting one another is just one way we will come through these times.
