From the Executive
Induction of New Staff
On Wednesday 3rd February, our new College Rector, Fr Harry Dyer OMI, inducted new staff members into the De Mazenod family with a presentation on the life and spirituality of St Eugene de Mazenod. His humour and eloquence instantly placed everyone at ease and him in great demand as a guest speaker for future events. The 19 participants included new staff from both 2021 and 2020. Following the workshop, their mentors and members of the College Executive team joined participants for dinner.
The evening represents an ongoing Oblate tradition based in the Oblate Charism. It provides an opportunity to show an appreciation and understanding of the community we all value so dearly. Feedback from our new staff members is testimony to this. In addition, the generosity of our mentors ensures the smoother onboarding of staff and the passing down of our College traditions.
Fr Harry is one of 9 new staff members for 2021, bringing our College total to 203 employees. Others include teachers Mie Takamatsu in Japanese and Meg Newman in the Commerce Faculty. The Design Technologies Department appointed two new assistants with Karen Ansell in food and Scott Cunningham in the workshop. Georgia Lawrence joined the Learning Diversity team as a Learning Support Officer and the Year 12 Italian class as a Language Assistant. More recently, we welcomed back former students Adil Alvarez and Luke Schaefer to our Oblate Youth Ministry team and Trent Symss to the Sports Department as an AFL Sports Trainee.
With a combination of former students and new staff, the long-standing College traditions will be enhanced by innovation and insights. Please make our new staff feel welcome.
