INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY 2021

Sam McDonald, Business Manager

Tell us about a joy you have had in leadership?

Being able to surround myself with other amazingly talented women who build you up has been one of my biggest joys in leadership.

What do you love about your job?

There is so much that I love about my job – where do I start? I love that I can have a positive impact on learning at our school. I love that I continue to learn about so many things each and every day. I love it when students drop in, whether it is to tell me something that has happened to them during the day or just to say Hi to our fish. I love that I work with the most amazing people, but most of all I love that each morning I walk through the front door of our school with a smile.

Female role model and why?

Turia Pitt. The resilience that she has shown in overcoming the many challenges she has faced since her accident in 2011 is inspiring. I just love her positive mindset and how she has continues to challenge herself to live a fulfilling and happy life despite her injuries. To see her smile is

Female who has influenced your life?

My Mum. She taught me that I can quietly achieve anything that I set my mind to. She taught me to be compassionate, kind and considerate of others and that you don’t have to be loud to get your point across.  However, the biggest lesson that I have learnt from her is that time is precious and to enjoy every moment with family and friends because before you know it, you can be thrown a curveball that will change everything.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope that in the future there will be no divide due to race, gender or disability. That people will be seen for what they contribute to society and for the compassionate way that they treat others and not because of something that is out of their control.
