Principal's Report

Mr. Corey Jewell

I thank our community for your patience and compliance with the advice being received from the Premiers office related to Covid-19. The short circuit 5 day lockdown was a reminder that the global pandemic is not over and we still have to make good choices around personal hygiene and social distancing. I ask that all students and visitors to the college follow the guidelines and wear masks at all times. This is the law, and something the school must enforce. I ask that the masks are worn correctly over the nose and mouth, and hope that the need within our school for masks ends soon.

On Monday the 1st of March the College will open its doors and welcome all families of our new Year 7 students for the annual Meet the Teacher evening. This is an opportunity for parents to meet the teachers of their children and ask any questions they may have about their classes. On this evening the school will also celebrate the use of the new outdoor BBQ area developed by school council in 2020. I hope to see as many Year 7 families on this evening to enjoy the food and conversation at this evening.

The school received 5 parent nominations for school council by the due date, which means an election is not required. I would like to congratulate the 5 parent members of school council for 2021 – Julie Pronesti, Silv Tenace, Linda Golikidis, Kristina Necovski and Benita Memedaliev. Julie and Silv have been on school council for a number of years and are experienced school council members. Linda, Kristina and Benita are new to the Lalor Secondary College school council and we welcome their commitment to the college.

The student representative for school council will be Katerina Piromalis who has previously served on school council as a student representative when in Year 7.

The two staff representatives will be Julie Ryan and Tim Cottrell.

Any family that may be experiencing financial difficulties in 2021 can seek assistance from the school by contacting the school business manager - Debbie Boyce. The school has a hardship fund that can be accessed by all members of the school community, and I encourage anybody who is having trouble supplying books, uniform or attending school events just to name a few, to contact Debbie and have a discussion on how to access this fund.

A reminder to all parents within the college that if your child has had an Anaphylactic reaction you are required to provide the school with an Individual ASCIA Action Plan as a well as an Auto-injector kit to the school. The schools Anaphylaxis management policy is on the school’s website for more information. If you are unsure of anything in this policy, please contact our school nurse Ms Rebecca Avramoski who will arrange a meeting with you to discuss the schools processes.

I wish all of the Year 7 students who are going on camp this week the best of luck and I know they will have a great time. I look forward to seeing them on the Friday when I come up to visit and join in on this exciting event.

A reminder to all parents of some key events that are coming up on the schools calendar. The Lalor Secondary College Athletics Carnival will take place on Friday the 5th of March. Parents are invited to attend this event but must sign in at the gate prior to entering the venue. Parents are also reminded that there are 2 student free days coming up on the calendar. Tuesday the 23rd of February is our first Curriculum Day and Monday the 8th of March is the Labour Day public holiday. Both of these days are student free days. Parents will need to make alternate arrangements for care on both of these days.

The school has appointed the Architect to oversee the development that will occur within the college over the next 2 years. Brand Architects are an experienced company that have completed a lot of work for the VSBA. I am confident they will do a great job in leading the capital works. If you would like to see some of the projects they have completed please visit the following website.  https://www.brandarchitects.com.au/

If you have any queries or questions that you would like answered about the school or the information listed above, then please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Best regards,

Corey Jewell
