Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Families and Community members,

We've hit the half way point of Term 1 already! Time is flying by, but so many great things happening in the school!

Congratulations Chloe!

On Friday Chloe Lyons competed in the School Sport Victoria Barwon & Bellarine Division Swimming Championships. Chloe is the first senior student to compete on behalf of Armstrong Creek School at a senior sport event. We are so proud of Chloe and the way she represented Armstrong Creek School. Chloe took out first place in the women’s under 20 event in both the Freestyle and Breaststroke.

Breast stroke 50m first 50.99 seconds

Freestyle 50 m first 37.13 seconds

Breakfast Club

This week Breakfast Club has returned for all students at ACS!  We will be providing breakfast on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8.40am to 8.55am.  Students can make their way over to the Canteen for a quick take away breakfast.

This is a great opportunity for your child to practice their social skills by:

  • Lining up calmly and waiting patiently to be served.
  • Remembering to use their manners by saying ‘please’ and ‘thank  you’ when engaging with our volunteer staff.
  • Taking care of our school and placing all of their rubbish in the bins provided.

We would like to thank Food Bank Victoria for supplying all of our food products free of charge for this valuable program.

School Review

On Thursday we had the first day of our 'official' School Review, which all government schools have every 4 years (typically). School Reviews are a process where by Schools reflect on achievements over the period of a Strategic Plan, celebrating successes and identifying areas for future improvement.

Myself, Kathryn and Dehlia, were joined by the other members of the School Review Panel including our School Council President Janelle Levy, Reviewer Julie Myers and our 'challenge partners' Jason Smallwood (Acting Director School Improvement DET) and Vicki Minton (Principal Baden Powell P-9 College).

Along with looking at various forms of school performance data and discussing and analysing our achievements, the Panel conducted a Parent Focus Group, Student Workshops and observations in Learning Communities.

The day was an overwhelmingly positive and re-affirming experience, with the Panel providing wonderful feedback about how far we have come as a school, in what is quite a short space of time.

We will have our final Review day on March 25th and I look forward to providing a more comprehensive summary of the outcomes after that.

2021 Curriculum Days

Please note that our Curriculum Days for 2021 are as follows:

  • Friday 11 June – Inclusive Education in Practice
  • Friday 13 August – Science of Reading
  • Friday 17 December – 2022 Preparation/Staff Health, Wellbeing and Community

Students are not required at school on these days.

Portable Name

You may recall me communicating that our first Portable had been installed over the last school holidays and our 5/6 students and staff have been utilising this this year.

When we began in 2018, our school community played a part in naming our building and chose the 'theme' of local surf breaks. This year we handed the 'naming rights' to the 5/6 students themselves, with the outcome being; 'Cosy Corner'.

With more portables to come in the future, we will have start getting creative as we run out of names!

Hot Cross Bun Fundraiser

Our first fundraiser for the year has been organised by PACC and is a fantastic Routley's Bakery Hot Cross Bun Fundraiser!

Routley's Bakery has been making Pies & Cakes for over 60 years, so have perfected their recipes over a long time.

For every pack sold, Armstrong Creek School will keep approximately 30% of the selling price!

Orders will be delivered to the school on Wednesday 31/3/2021 to your eldest child to bring home.

We suggest selling to family members, colleagues in the workplace, friends or neighbours. We do not recommend involving children in selling, but if they are involved, they must do so under adult supervision, especially if selling door to door.

Fruit Hot Cross Buns - 6 Pack  @ $6.50 each

Chocolate Hot Cross Buns - 6 Pack @ $6.50 each

Fundraising activities such as this make a vital contribution towards improving resources for the benefit of all our children. In anticipation of a successful fundraising drive, we thank you for your support!

Grade 6 Shirts

Each year families of our Grade 6 students have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative polo shirt.  The design on the back of the shirts is voted by the students.

Here are Joseph,  Indiana, Ryder and Olivia proudly modelling the shirts!

Parent \ Teacher Conferences

Parent \ Teacher Conferences will take place on Wednesday 17 March from 3.30pm - 7.30pm.  This is an opportunity for parents to meet together with their child’s home group teacher to discuss how their child has settled in this term and the learning that has taken place so far this year.

Each conference will be for 10 minutes and bookings will open on Compass from Wednesday 3/3/2021.

Please see the guide below for assistance on how to make your booking(s).
