House News - Columba

Ms Sonia McNally

I am pleased to introduce our two House Captains for 2021 – Adau Matiok and Shantelle D’Silva. Two very enthusiastic students who will bring a lot of positivity to our house. I especially welcome our Year 7s who I had the pleasure of attending a 3 day camp with last week. I was impressed with their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour during the camp. Hopefully they made some new friendships which will only increase their sense of belonging at St Johns.

“ It is an opportunity and my greatest honour to be accepted as Columba house Captain for 2021. In recent yeast I’ve seen a range of great House Captains and wish to uphold the values and qualities each of them possessed. Welcome Year 7’s, this year marks the first of a long 6 year journey through high school here at St.John’s and I sincerely hope it will be a time in which you enjoy, make mistakes, but also learn from them, make new friends and most importantly create the best memories with your peers. Although 2020 was not the best year, my message to all new comers and my fellow peers is to live for the future. My vision for this year is to be an encouraging role model and voice for the students at St. John’s, I also aim for students to feel a sense of belonging through our house spirit. I cannot wait to work beside my co-house Captain Shantelle, the SRC team and Mrs McNally to make the students’ vision and voice be heard. To my fellow year 12’s, 2021 completes the end of our secondary school journey but will also mark the beginning of a new life outside of these school gates. It will undoubtedly be the most challenging year. We will all be faced with  hardships whether that be with our studies or our mental state. There will be times in which we are ready to just give up, but I assure you it’ll be over before we know it, so give this year your best shot. Moreover, I hope 2021 becomes the year to gain control of your future, because the only person that can get you where you want to be is YOU!!! “
