Mr. Timothy Cottrell

Our athlectics carnival on Friday was a joyous day of student activity and participation. It is always great to greet students in this alternative setting and to share in the raising of house spirit. The banners created during year 7 orientation were a welcome feature. All students were respectful and helpful with the organisation of the day, including with transport to and from the venue on many buses.

On Wednesday, 10th of December our year 7s will receive their immunisation boosters. Our nurses from Whittlesea make the procedure fast, simple and comfortable. All students and families should be reassured as to the ease of the process. This will occur during sessions one and two on Wednesday. Please call the office with any queries.

This afternoon all staff will be undertaking further training on the Berry Street (trauma aware) Education Model. This model is helping to keep us all informed of the importance of the specific needs of every individual student in the classroom, and the importance of high quality teacher-student learning relationships. More and more the awareness of BSEM is becoming a firm part of our culture at Lalor. Please be in touch with me if you have any questions about the model and how it contributes to our strong positive wellbeing culture at the college.

Life as a student cannot always be a ‘bed of roses’. Like all of us, students can sometimes benefit from the support of a professional adult who is trained to listen and respond to the needs of young people. I encourage all families to be aware of the availability of both our student management and wellbeing teams for this purpose. Referrals can come from families, staff or parents themselves. Please be in touch with myself, Josh Simpson or Laz Zaekis with any queries about how we can help in any way.

Our Meet the Teacher evening was a huge success, and very well attended by year 7 families. If any parent/carer missed the evening and would like an informal chat about the progress of their child, please do not hesitate to be in touch with Sam Laird, Britt Duncan or Josh Simpson who will be able to put something in place. The Meet the Teacher does not replace parent teacher conferences which are scheduled for Wednesday 31st March. Thank you to Melanie Foster and her team for organising a fabulous Meet The Teacher, 2021.
