Ms. Laura Forster

Last Tuesday the college held a Curriculum Day, where all staff undertook professional learning on effective measures that can be utilised in the classroom to support Reading growth. The sessions were lead by Ecehan Gulbayrak, our very own Literacy Learning specialist, who guided staff through a number of activities, including unpacking of our Lexile reading program, Fountas and Pinnell literacy testing and intervention program and Pat testing.  The school has invested in these programs to support improvement in student literacy across the school. Staff also spent time in their Key Learning Areas developing Reading Action Plans to incorporate the teaching of reading strategies.

Ms Krystal Bussell, LSC Careers counsellor has been working with our year 12 students, spending time holding individual appointments to support students in their planning looking towards careers and post secondary school options.  For some students, the decisions surrounding future pathways can be difficult to make, and having conversations with your child at home can assist. Often these conversations have already started at the end of year 10 where subjects and courses are selected to ensure University or TAFE pathways are supported by the choice of subjects students have selected in their senior years of study. Shortly students will be attending Careers expo sessions at Caulfield Race course, where they can further investigate their pathway options. Please feel free to contact Krystal should you require an appointment with your child.

This Friday the year 12 students made a statement at our annual athletics carnival with some fantastic costumes. This event is a highlight for the senior students, as it marks their final year at the college. Both staff and students had a great day.

The senior students, are completing their first School Assessed tasks, and for some juggling the demands of each subject are proving challenging. Our senior school team have been supporting them with practical sessions about developing study timetables and adhering to adequate home work schedules. Midterm, is a great opportunity for you as parents and guardians to check in with your children to see how they are tracking and ensure they are keeping up to date with subject requirements. As always please don’t hesitate to contact relevant subject teachers or the senior school team if you have and queries or concerns. It is through our strong partnership that we can ensure the best possible outcomes for our students.
