Drama Matters

Climate Change movie

Rehearsals are continuing for our Climate Change movie – our working title is: Are We Dead Yet?  We have two groups of students working on different sections of the movie. Our Senior Students are representing the characters who find themselves at Pius after an extreme weather event.

They will move through the school into different rooms/portals that represent different aspects of climate change. Our Intermediate Students are working hard creating each different ‘room’ and they are creatively finding ways to present their ideas. Some characters will get lost along the way – not everyone will survive climate change! We are developing ways of presenting this structurally, the breakdown of language, realism and character. Photos this week are of the Intermediate Drama students in The Sea Urchin/Ocean Room & The Heatwave Room.

Music Matters

I am pleased to announce that we will be holding our first concert for 2021 on Thursday 25 March (Week 9, Term 1).  At present we will be running this concert in Stages. Primary and Juniors will be from 4.00 pm to 4.45 pm, Intermediates and Seniors from 5.00 pm to 5.45 pm. At this time, one parent/carer will be allowed to attend. Students and families will be dismissed at the end of their performance as per current COVID protocols. This is a great step forward and puts us back on the path to more public performances.

We are also planning our Twilight Concert in Week 4 next term. This again will be subject to COVID protocols and is looking like a guitar and string concert. I also plan to have a return to singing with our Choir rebuilding every Wednesday in the Sarto Centre. Obviously just as Sport underwent some significant changes to procedure, Music will be presented with some differences. I’m just happy to have the opportunities for the students return in what ever form it can.

I’m looking to highlight student progress and achievement on a weekly basis and have asked Ensemble Directors to highlight students that are making a significant contribution to their Ensembles. The first students I would like to highlight are the re-forming members of the Senior Choir. They have grown from 4 to 13 in a matter of a few weeks. Well done boys and let's get a few more involved.

Open Day is approaching and again Performing Arts will be involved during the day. Please check with your relevant Ensemble Directors for details.

Well done to our Drama students and Ms Lindley for their efforts on the Climate Change Project. Rehearsals are in full swing and there is much creativity and hard work happening. I anticipate filming towards the end of term and we look forward to viewing the final product. Well done to all involved.
