Saturday's 2nd XI Team and St Patrick's players acknowledged the late Phil Chaplin. A ceremony before the game was held in front of the Chaplin score board in his honour. Please see the Pastoral Care Page of this Woodchatta for a detailed article on Mr Phil Chaplin.

Congratulations to the Open B team who secured their first win for the season and it was an away game as well. We still have a good number of teams who can make it into the Grand Finals on Saturday 13 March. All Grand Finals will be held at Penrith Basketball Stadium. Once again I was very impressed with the sportsmanship and the effort our teams are putting into their games regardless of the scores. I hope we carry that good character into the finals next week.
Mr Neil Gibson - Basketball Convenor
Despite the chance of rain, the boys headed onto the courts for another exciting week of tennis. It was great to see 4 Senior boys volunteer to help out. Jamie Leong, Alex Vaccher, Aiden Parsons and Richard Gauci’s presence on the courts helped our younger players learn how to umpire as well as some valuable skills to help them play their matches.
Our yellow ball matches at 8.00 am were also full of excitement and excellent play by our SPX teams. Riley Seeto and Adam Fitrzyk (SPX 16) played an amazing match against Redlands 22, winning 3 sets to 0. It was an exciting match between SPX 20 and SPX 19 with Samuel Lodge and Jonathon Webster (SPX 19) winning 2 sets to 1. Despite the rain starting, a light sprinkle at 8:30 am, all teams continued and all matches were able to be played.
Then the 10.00 am games began and again Pius vs Pius games were the ones to watch. Lucas Durey and Christian Wong (SPX 12) played well against Alex Higgins and Marco Akdagcik (SPX 11) with both teams drawing with 12 games by SPX 12 winning 2 sets to 1. Boston Bannister and Jake Yu (SPX 9) proved that size was not an issue when these two Junior boys were faced with 2 Senior boys, winning all 3 sets.
Make sure that you log into Xpoint this week to check that your scores have been entered correctly and also to check where you are playing next Saturday. You can access this information on Xpoint:

Don’t forget to send in your scoresheets to either your coach or Mrs Iwatani if you are playing an away game.

Cross-Country training will run all term. Join our Senior student leaders and top athletes, Matthew North and Dominic Panozzo, alongside our distance coach, Izzy Thornton-Bott for fun, varied and challenging sessions.
Beauchamp Park, Chatswood from 7.30 am – 8.15 am on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
Meet at the Grandstand in comfortable running gear and with a water bottle. You don’t have to aspire to run in the ISA Carnival - all students and abilities welcome.
Mr Greg Virgona - Cross Country Convenor
Last Saturday night the squad competed in the Annual Christian Brothers Carnival at Ryde Aquatic Centre. We had an extremely successful evening coming away with a 5th for the Juniors, 3rd for the Seniors and first in the Intermediates and got to take a shield home. These results gave St Pius X a 3rd overall. Nicholas Gladen broke a 7 year old record for 50m Freestyle (25.91 seconds) and Alex Davies swam a personal best for his 50m Freestyle.
On Wednesday 10 March the squad will be swimming at the ISA Carnival held at Homebush Aquatic Centre. As there are only two divisions of Freestyle and one for the other strokes, not all swimmers in the squad will be competing. The team list is up on the Student Noticeboard. All swimmers must check to see if they are competing. The ISA squad will be leaving the College at 9.00 am and will be arriving back at the College approximately 6.00 pm. Lunch will be provided for the students. All swimmers MUST be wearing their school swimmers and cap.
Please Note: If any parents are attending the carnival, could you please let me know as I will need to register your names with the ISA as part of the COVID Safety plan.
Training continues over at Fitness First Chatswood from 7.15 am – 8.15 am on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. It concludes next Tuesday, 9 March. We will then recommence training again in Term 4.

If you want to be a part of the terrific St Pius X College debating community it is essential that you attend ALL of the first six rounds. If your team makes it through to the Elimination Round (and beyond) you also need to keep the above dates free.
Our Senior Students act as coaches/supporters for our Junior teams. We are also lucky enough to have ex-students to work with the junior teams as the younger students really enjoy contact with our ex-debating “champions”.
The fee for the CSDA extra-curricular activity is $150.00 which will be included in your Term Two school fees. We keep our fees as low as possible and have funding from the St Pius X College P & F to subsidise the costs of running debating at SPX.
