SRC

Student Representative Council

We have had a wonderful and dedicated SRC this semester. They are voted in by their classmates and serve for a semester. They generously offer up part of their lunch time a couple of times a term to represent the student body.

What do they do?

The Reps have a class meeting then bring ideas or topics to our meetings. We discuss it and come up with an answer or if we don't know the answer we will record it in the minutes and assign someone to find out and report back at the next meeting. The meeting is minuted and a report is then pasted into their books so they can then report back to their classes what was said at the meeting. Sounds impressive doesn't it...it is!

Some items dealt with so far...

It was great to see the SRC come up with a solution for sharing the three basketball courts. They also agreed if a level wasn't using a court, students from other levels could join in.

The reps looked at the best spots around the goal area for both soccer games or football games. The suggestion is that the 'Quiet Area' is more suitable area as this is 'no ball' play space.

Clarification was sought around the wearing of school socks, as in, the ones purchased from the uniform shop. The reps fed back to their classes that 'uniform' means 'same' and that means; we look the same in our clothing and represent our school in a particular style and look. This also aligns with the school uniform policy.

Classes wanted to understand the difference between 'Brainbreaks' (small breaks in between learning sessions) and whole class 'outside' games.  Brainbreaks are quick 1 or 2 minute breaks that helps students to refocus when transitioning between topics or learning spaces. For example, transitioning from the floor, to working at desks. Occasionally games of 15-30mins are important opportunities to acknowledge extended periods of sustained effort and 'movement break' or reward is encouraged.

They also designed and created posters to advertise the lemonade stand for the Good Friday Appeal last term. They spent part of their lunchtime making posters to promote and eventually raise money for this worthy cause.

These are just some of the matters that have been brought to our meetings and it is great opportunity to celebrate 'student voice' in THEIR school.

I'm so proud of these wonderful young people and would like to thank them for their dedication this semester. I look forward to working alongside the next band of peer-voted leaders next semester.

Until then,
