It has probably been commented on in everyone's pages but "oh my goodness' the weather has truly turned. It has been great to see so many take up the suggestion about wearing thermals or long sleeved tops under their uniforms. Please encourage the children to wear their blue/black or white undergarments and to wear their jumpers; we know many are resistant to having jumpers on, but if you send it, we will encourage them to wear them. Also, if they have beanies/scarves, coats or puffer jackets etc we are encouraging the children to take them off once inside so that they have a nice warm layer to add when they go outside.
And,
Once again, please keep those sniffles and sneezes at home as we don't want to 'share the love' so to speak.
We have been focussing on initial blends in spelling and addressing some learning gaps found through testing. Hopefully you have noticed your children working on them in their homework and they have been practicing at home.
Our Poetry focus is sadly coming to an end! We have been thrilled with the results and look forward to sharing some special poems we wrote for our Grandparents and Special Friends Day. We have loved learning about Cinquains, Haikus and Limericks and making our own. You may have heard a few last week at Assembly when 3/4LF presented their hard work.
If the children come home and mention Greedy Pigs, nod approvingly and ask them to teach you. It is a fabulous game that can be used for any Maths focus (addition and multiplication especially). We have been using it for warming up our maths minds before we get into our work.
We have been exploring Multiplication and are beginning to also look at Division. The twp processes are related, as you well know ... if 3x4=12 then 12 into 3 groups is 4. So if we know our timetables we can work out our division too. This will continue to be a focus for our Maths homework through using Hit the Button. It also has a division section so if they are competent in Multiplication they move over into Division.
Thank you to Mrs Murphy for organising our incursion with the Edithvale Wetlands. Although we were only on Zoom we got an amazing perspective from the aerial photography and listening to the sounds of the wetland was wonderful. We learnt so much and look forward to being able to come and visit with our families sometime soon.
Our Projects are well underway and are almost finished now. We just need to remember to bring in our models we made at home as part of our homework tasks. Thankfully we have one more week to finish and make our information cubes with all our research on it.
Please remember to come and see

This week as a link to our Science unit we looked at how the Bible uses animals to teach lessons. They often symbolise things and make it easier to teach people about what God wants us to know. The most obvious one is the Dove, it symbolises peace and in the story of Noah's Ark, the dove returns and brings an olive branch to show Noah that the flood is over and the land is returning for God's people and animals in the Ark. The Dove is a bringer of good news and also represents the Holy Spirit. Another animal most often brought up is the Snake, he was also in the next chapter of the Creation Story; with Adam and Eve. The Snake represents evil and we need to look out for people and things who are like the snake and tempt us to make poor choices. The children all chose an animal and reflected on what it represents, the message God wants us to recieve and then what this means for each of us. We all wrote beautiful prayers and have them in our class prayer books to use for Class Prayer.
What a lovely time we had with our buddies again. We really love these opportunities and this time we played cards together. There was a lot of turn taking, sharing and great sportsmanship to be seen in the rooms. They had the option of games they wanted to play and it was lovely to see the older ones teaching the younger ones some simple addition games we play in class with cards.
Another few visits and now we are back to having a second turn at visiting Nagle Kinder. It was so lovely to see the little ones recognising the faces of the children form Sacred Heart who have been there before. We did drawings, played with blocks, played Soccer and hilarious Hide-n-Seek this week. Last week Mrs Pennington took a groups and they helped learn about the symbols that Indigenous people use in their art works. We love this opportunity and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Tess, Nina, Annie and Roberta and the delightful children at Nagle Kinder. We are even meeting some of the kids who are coming to our school next year, where they will be Preps.
Don't forget that the latest homework grid is now due Tuesday next week. This allows families the extra time over long weekend to get everything looking its best. Don't forget to bring your models in on Tuesday.
