'A Grandparents love will never grow old'
Dear Parents and families,
Whilst the weather has got cooler over the past few weeks, the vibe in the school and classrooms certainly has not.
Grandparents Day
The Grandparents and special friends day is a highlight in our school calendar and today was no exception. The Mackillop hall was overflowing with grandparents and special friends.
We had a beautiful assembly this morning where the hall was beautifully decorated by all the students. We had a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our grandparents and thanked them for all they do for us, including a lovely performance by the 3/4 students and a special thanks to the 3/4 teachers for teaching and rehearsing the beautiful 'Grandparents are special song' song. It was a huge success.
A special thanks to all the grandparents and special friends who travelled to Sacred Heart to be here today, some from interstate; it means a lot to us and particularly your grandchildren and special friends . It was delightful to see the classrooms bursting with special visitors this morning and precious time was spent together sharing all the learning we do in our school. The morning ended with a special morning tea put on by the Parents & Friends. Thanks to Lisa Mare and Nat Flatt and all the P & F helpers for serving and organising the scones and morning tea. It was a much needed refreshment at the end of a busy morning.
It is pleasing to see, as the term has progressed that most students have recovered from a bout of colds and flu and are enjoying the last few weeks of Term Three. There are so many exciting things happening across our school.
Over these past few weeks we’ve had a Science incursion for the prep, one and two students. A highlight was the teabag on fire experiment and seeing how matter can change. The preps have also been busy learning about the Very Hungry caterpillar
linking it to their Maths patterns.
Poetry and projects in 3/4
There have been some budding poets in Year 3/4 and they have been learning about all types of poetry. A group of keen poets came to my office and shared their poetry that they had written during wet day play. They were so good that they ended up reading their poems in assembly. Well done girls, it was a true highlight.
The 3/4 student have been working tirelessly on their projects and posters on Animal environments and biomes. Please pop in to see the fine work that is adorning the walls and the 3D projects .
CLASSROOM HELPERS
Although the weather is cool, we welcome you into the warmth of our classrooms at any time.
Back in February we had so many keen parents come in to do our parent helper’s course. If you haven’t had a chance to go into your child’s classroom before school, after school or during the week for classroom help we welcome you with open hearts. It is a wonderful insight into the life of school by helping in the classroom. If you haven’t had a chance to sign up to your classroom roster please do so or if that time doesn’t suit please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher and let them know your availability. I’m sure they will be most grateful of any parent help you can offer, even it’s only once a term.
Year 4 Kinder visits
Our year 4 kinder visits have continued over the past few weeks and it’s been incredible seeing the connections that the Sacred Heart students and kinder students are making. We are on our 2nd round of visits now so relationships are forming and beautiful friendships are being made. The Kinder students were leading the way with Indigenous drawings and paintings.
Year 5/6 work on the brain
It has been incredible to see the work in the 5/6 area on the brain and how it flows through to our Art program. Congratulations to Mrs Lisa Biffin and Mrs Liz Hyslop on their incredible brain art work. Please pop in to see some of this amazing work in the hallways.
In closing I wish you all a very well deserved long weekend and hope you and your families can rest and relax. I know the teachers have been working extremely hard on report writing over the past few weeks, so they will definitely enjoy a sleep in. We look forward to seeing you around the school in the final two works of Term Two.
Stay warm, cosy & healthy,
