Principal's Report

Dear Collingwood College,

Can you believe it we are half way through term already?  I know our staff are working as hard as ever to provide a fabulous learning program that you will see through this newsletter, showcases great learning and provides new experiences.

A little movement with staffing of late.  Judith Clelland, Assistant Principal (Secondary) resigned the AP position late last term.  Judith remains on leave and is likely to return in some capacity in 2023.  Judith has had minor health concerns, combined with an appetite for travel. We wish her well for the remainder of the year!

With this news, I can announce that the Assistant Principal recruitment process is complete.  Angela Watters has been named the successful candidate. Congratulations Angela!

Sormeh Afkari has recently had a promotion at Fitzroy Primary School.  She is Acting Assistant Principal there for 2 days per week.  Sormeh remains Learning Specialist at Collingwood College for the remaining 3 days.  As much as we will miss Sormeh, this is a fantastic professional growth and learning opportunity.

The Collingwood College English Language Centre (ELC) has opened its doors again!  Felica Peh is leading the teaching and learning in this fantastic 20-week intensive program.  We welcomed 8 new international faces at the beginning of term and expect several more before the term ends.  To support this and other movement throughout the school we have recruited several new staff. All of whom bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our College.

Please welcome:

Younghee Cho.  ELC + Chinese

Beth Huang.  Chinese (Primary) + Maths

Chenhao Cui.  ES International Support + Chinese Language Assistant

Rachel Baxendale.  Philosophy, English & Hums

Finally, it has been announced that Collingwood College has been selected for DET’s MoRE pilot program this year.  The Modelling Respect and Equality program (MoRE) aims to positively shift adherence to stereotypical masculine norms, which contributes to the prevention of family violence.  This pilot extends our whole school respectful relationships program which will now deliver additional topics including ‘gender and identify’ as well as ‘gender relations’.  We are keen to share the journey in upcoming newsletters.

Have a great weekend,

Regards,

Sam Luck
