Dear Parents/Carers,

The weather over the last couple of weeks has been cold, cold, cold and students have spent many recesses and lunchtimes inside out of the elements. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the wonderful teaching and Learning Mentor staff at Rowville Primary School for making this happen.  It is indicative of the support and collaboration at Rowville Primary School that the team look after each other and ensure that everyone has the chance to have a bathroom break and grab a bite to eat without leaving the children unattended.

Our school uniform provides a range of choices for students to be rugged up against the elements.  We understand we do not have winter hats, scarves, and gloves as part of uniform, but we do ask that parents provide these items in school colours. Teachers are currently asking the students to take outer garments off inside (the rooms are all heated) so when they head outside, they have an additional layer of clothing they can put on.

We ask that parents explain this idea to their children at home.

On a final note, the highlight of my week was the bird that flew into the year 2 and 3 building.  It did a couple of laps around and startled by the screaming of 7-year-olds it flew into the TV screen. The poor bird was stunned whilst Miss Nicholas picked it up and took it outside. We were pleased to see that at the end of the day it had flown away from where she placed it. Funny thing though, it was back today trying to get into the building again.  Seems we humans aren’t the only ones hiding from the cold.
