New Leadership Staff 2023

2023

Leading Teacher - Sarah Grenfell

I am thrilled to introduce myself as one of the newly appointed Leading Teachers for 2023. For those families that I have not met yet, I have been fortunate enough to have been at Saltwater College since its opening in 2019. I have been very privileged to have been a part of the school’s growth and development as both a Learning Specialist for well-being and then Literacy. You will normally find me in the upper years, supporting our future leaders in Year Six, or you may have seen me around the school, facilitating our whole school assemblies and supporting our love of books by running the Scholastic Book Fair.

Next year I will be the Leading Teacher of Year Five and Six, with my main role supporting our teachers and the students. I am excited to be a part of all 11 classes next year, across years five and six, as I will be there to assist and support you with your learning journey. I am passionate about student agency and developing our leaders, so, please don’t hesitate to come and introduce yourselves when you see me and share any ideas you may have.

I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday, and I will see you all in the new year!

Leading Teacher - Sarah Mason

My name is Sarah Mason and I joined the Saltwater family this year, teaching Prep. I have been teaching for nine years and I am extremely passionate about what I do. In 2023 I will be Leading Teacher for Prep. I have lived in Yarraville most of my life until recently and I am a Western Bulldogs supporter through and through. I have an energetic labradoodle named Izzy who loves running around and playing with her toys. I am looking forward to taking on this new role next year.

Assistant Principal - Sarah O'Connor

Hi, I’m Sarah, a local Saltwater Coast resident and your newly appointed Assistant Principal of the Middle Years Program. I was lucky enough to join the Saltwater p-9 College school community earlier this year as a Leading Teacher and have guided the development of the Middle Years Program with the support of our amazing educators. I am super proud to say our first year has been a success and I look forward to collaborating with students, families and educators to continue this success in 2023.

So a bit about me for those who don't already know: My partner and I have a 17-year-old daughter, a pooch called Camo and a furball called Lara. We are a fairly energetic family, working or playing sports in our spare time. One thing we all have in common is our drive to succeed and enabling others to do the same. We also know first-hand the challenges and rewards that come with raising a child and experience tells us that 'it takes a village.' So for those, I have met and those I am yet to meet, I look forward to seeing you all in the near future and working together to foster wonder, success and inspiration with your children in our growing village of Saltwater P-9 College.

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday,

Assistant Principal - Danielle Colling

I am thrilled to introduce myself as one of the newly appointed Assistant Principals for 2023. For those families that I haven’t met, I commenced at Saltwater College in 2019, during the school’s first year. I have been very privileged to have been a part of the school’s growth and development as both a Learning Specialist and more recently Leading Teacher in Years 1-3. This year I took 12 months leave to travel and spend time with family overseas, after what we all know has been a difficult few years of the pandemic. Although, I had a brilliant time away, I’m very happy to now be back home and preparing to return to Saltwater.

Next year I have been appointed as Assistant Principal of Year One, with my main role to support our teaching team and the students to achieve their personal best. I am passionate about developing student’s academic, social and emotional skills and I’m excited to get to know each and every Year One student (all 270 of them). Wish me luck!!

To the Year One families of 2023, I am looking forward to developing a strong home school partnership as we work together to ensure your child has the best start to their education both at Saltwater College and beyond. If you do see me around the school grounds, I would love for you to come and say hello!

I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday and I will see you all in the new year!

Assistant Principal - Hayley Mann

My name is Hayley Mann. I am looking forward to taking on the role of Assistant Principal in 2023, overseeing the Year Two team. I have been teaching for 14 years and have spent 2022 as a Leading Teacher overseeing the current Year Two cohort.

I moved from England in 2018 to Australia and spent the first part of my career working as a classroom teacher and Leading Teacher in England. I started Saltwater P-9 college in 2019 and have taught in Prep and Year One.

I am really looking forward to getting started and developing relationships with the students and families. Please come and say hello and introduce yourself. Have a wonderful summer holiday and I will see you in the New Year.

Leading Teacher - Brent Syme

My name is Brent Syme and I was lucky enough to join Saltwater College in 2022 as a Year Two classroom teacher, and in 2023 I’ll be taking on a new role as the Leading Teacher of Year Two. In this new role, I look forward to supporting the year two students throughout the year from how subjects are planned to the engagement through excursions, clubs and other exciting activities to help support our students not only academically but emotionally as well.

Next year I am very grateful to have Hayley Mann join me in her new role of the Year Two Assistant Principal, who was our Year Two Leading Teacher last year. Beyond my work with the Year Two students, I will continue my work with the broader school community to further develop our School Houses, the School Clubs Initiative and other community-based events.

For those who don't know me, my wife and I have a 14 month baby girl, Mylah, who is growing up way too fast already! If we manage to find some spare time we love going out together for day trips, playing boardgames or even building Lego together.

Wishing you a very safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all again in the new year!
