Year Three News

Week 5 and 6 Newsletter

Dear Year Three families,

It’s been very busy in Year Three with lots of incredible learning going on. We are all so proud of the incredible achievements our students have made over this year.

Writing

In Writing, students have been working hard on their Information Reports. We have been exploring the different animals that make up our different ecosystems and the characteristics, diet and habitats of these animals. Our students have been very excited whilst conducting research on their chosen animals and finding out many interesting facts.

Maths

In Maths, students have continued with their work on division. We have been working on identifying the inverse operations of division, fact families, worded problems and some students have begun looking into solving division problems with and without the use of remainders. Students have been working hard in their fluid maths groups on individual learning goals and showing amazing growth.

Reading

In Reading, students have been looking into the author's purpose and focusing on identifying the persuasive techniques used by authors to convince their reader to agree with their opinion. Students have been working hard on their individual reading goals during independent reading and showing great achievements within their reading testing for our end of year reports!

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have continued their new unit centred around the Central Idea, ‘Humans contribute to thriving ecosystems'. We have been focusing on integrating our unit across all learning areas to encourage the greatest learning with our students. Students have been researching different ecosystems around the world to identify and analyse our impacts on the many different ecosystems, both positive and negative and how we may change some of the negative impacts that we may have on the ecosystems that surround us.

Crocodile Park Excursion

As part of our final Unit of Inquiry for the year, our Year Three's adventured to Crocodile Park to enquire into the various ecosystems that surround our local community and the habitats and biotic and abiotic organism that inhabit them. Our students enjoyed a scavenger hunt, exploring the living things that we could find within this ecosystem... including many baby animals! We even got the chance to have a rehearsal of our Christmas Carols altogether with a live audience!
