Year Two News

Written by the Year Two Team

Hello Year Two Families,

We can officially see the finish line of the year, how time flies! Let’s see what the kids have been up to over the last few weeks:

Reading

In Reading, we have been reflecting on our comprehension through a range of Christmas Reading activities as well as looking into Christmas reader's theatres to help students reading skills and improve overall reading confidence.

Writing

In Writing, students looked back at writing persuasive texts and how we use certain persuasive devices to articulate our writing and persuade the audience. A few persuasive devices we focused include 'Exaggeration' and 'Alliteration' and how these can influence the reader. We used some exciting prompts to write persuasive texts, on the topics ‘Convince your parents where you would like to go on a holiday and why’ and ‘Convince your teacher what class movie you should watch next week and why’.

Mathematics

In Maths, students have been recapping Measurement & Geometry as well as Statistics and Probability.  For Measurement and Geometry, we investigated formal and informal lengths as well as investigating time. For Statistics and Probability, we investigated the chances of something happening as well as creating a bar graph from tally marks. In addition to this, we have also had the opportunity to solve some general math problems in a NAPLAN style format to support students as they head towards Year Three.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, our students have started researching and creating their wonderings of the world. They worked collaboratively to help create wonderings for each of their peers. This helped the students to create their Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry.

Reminders:

  • Friday 16th December is the last day for students.
  • There is no school in Week 12, Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th December.

We wish the students a lovely holiday! They have worked extremely hard this year and deserve a long-awaited break.

Kind Regards,

The Year Two Team.
