Prep News

Dear Prep families,

The Preps have had a very busy end to Term Four. We have enjoyed swimming, 3 way conferences and the wonderful Christmas Carols Event. As we come together and reflect, we are so very proud of our Prep students, the growth they have made and the achievements they have made. We can not believe that our youngest learners of the school will soon be transitioning into Year One in 2023. The students are feeling confident and excited to meet their new teacher and 2023 class at our transition morning this Friday 16th December.

The students have continued to show the attributes of the Learner Profile as they continue the swimming program. They have walked to the pool each day being respectful of others around them and helping each other stay safe. While at the pool, the students have listened to their swimming instructors and tried their best showing how courageous balanced they are. What a great effort by everyone!

Three Way Conferences were a wonderful opportunity for the students to look back on their achievements this semester. Taking time to reflect on our learning journey this year has been a wonderful experience for all. The students were really excited to talk about their work and discuss all they have achieved and their current learning goals. They enjoyed showing their families their classroom and sharing learning linked to our current Unit of Inquiry relating to the Transdisciplinary Theme 'How the World Works' on display.

The carols were a little bit different to what we had hoped but the students worked with great effort, dedication and commitment to practise their songs and ensure their dance moves were ready for the performance. It was great to see the students all up on the stage being risk takers and enjoying performing together. What a celebration! We all hope that you were able to enjoy the carols from the comfort of your own home.

The students have been enjoying some Christmas based activities this week also.

In Reading, the students have been looking at a variety of Christmas books and creating items based on the books such as Christmas decorations and characters. They have made connections and comparisons as well. They have enjoyed buddy reading and discussing the books.

In Writing, the students have written letters to Santa, an elf or a family member, created cards and have shown creativity when they have written Christmas narratives.

In Mathematics, our students have been measuring the length of Christmas decorations they have created themselves. They have used rulers, measuring tapes and other uniform materials to find how long, short, tall or wide their items were. They have also been further developing their place value knowledge and using this knowledge to assist them when solving a variety of problems.

As we are winding up this wonderful year we would like to take the opportunity to thank each and everyone one of you for the support you have given your child/children this year. Taking time to read with them and find artifacts, talking about their day and what they have learnt has all impacted the success they have made this year. It has been our pleasure working alongside you to see your children grow and learn. We wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023.

Thank you,

Prep Team
