Narrative Features

Our Foundation students rounded out their semester completing their unit on Narrative Features. By the end of Week 11, students were examining media texts and identifying the who, what, where, why, and when of each story.

These analysis skills will serve the students well moving forward, as they relate directly to their work in Literacy. As they continue to become effective readers and writers, they will engage with these skills

YEAR ONE

Throughout Term Four, Year One students have been discovering different cultural creation myths and lore. To conclude the year, students watched the animated version of Hercules.

Having previously focussed a lesson on the myth of Hercules and the stories related to him, the students were able to compare and contrast with a different media production of the same story.

YEAR TWO

Having successfully completed print ads, the Year Two students planned, drafted and recorded scripts for radio ads based off their canned tomatoes.

Working with partners, students focused on persuasive techniques and effective speaking and listening skills. Students recorded their ads and selected jingles to accompany their reading.

YEAR THREE

During week seven, Year Three students were presented with their final assessment piece. As students have been learning about still-image narratives and creating them from teacher-directed prompts, they will now be creating and developing their own ideas.

Working in groups, students will brainstorm, plan, develop, shoot and publish still-image narratives of their own. They will utilise the photography skills they have developed during the semester and put them into practice.

YEAR FOUR

Our Year Four students are continuing their new unit, analysing media works to develop their understanding of narrative techniques. Using the all-Indigenous produced TV show Thalu as a mentor text, the students have explore symbolism and metaphors in texts, as well as decoding language.

Throughout these lessons, connections are made to the students' own writing pieces and how in Media and writing the same narrative principles are followed.
