Around The School

Year 8 dives into Deep Learning!

This term Year 8 English have sallied-forth into the works of the bard himself; Shakespeare. Their major assessment was to explore the relevance of Shakespeare’s work in the twentieth century in an almost limitless amount of ways, be it essays, PowerPoint presentations or podcasts. On Friday the fruits of all of their hard work was revealed in an assortment of creative ways. Colourful and informative posters, model stage designs with working lighting, a number of podcasts and radio interviews and even a slightly dodgy rap from a group of our talented boys. The Year 8 teachers were delighted with the energy and creativity demonstrated by Year 8 and could not wait to spend the public holiday grading them. Hooray for Year 8.

Well done group!

Primary PJ Day

Last week Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 wore their PJs to school to celebrate the hard work of our students this term. The students and teachers enjoyed being super comfortable at school and rocked out some awesome outfits.

Science Around The School

Year 5 Science

Year 5 Science classes this week looked at Herbivores, Carnivores and Omnivores. Students discussed a variety of animals and classified them into groups according to the types of food they eat. Students then used plasticine to make an animal of their choice, before presenting it to the class and explaining the animal's classification. The students were engaged in their learning and their creativity was evident in their final creations.

Year 2 Science

In Science, Miss Delmenico's 2B class has been learning how things mix and change, and the properties of materials. Earlier this week we made Gloop with corn flour, water and food dye. We tested how it felt in our hands. Our class loved this activity and our hands were covered in blue food dye.

Year 9 Forensic Science

Mrs Carmody's Year 9s learned about testing for alcohol  - comparing the reactions of four 'unknown' concentrations with potassium dichromate against a set of known alcohol concentrations.

Year 9 students also had the chance in their toxicology prac to use a suite of analytical tests to compare unknown white powders to a bank of known powders.

Year 10 Science

Year 10 Science students carried out practical analyses as they completed their Student Research Project Assessment Task. Students designed and carried out their own experiments to explore a scientific idea, concept or theory.

Year 11 Rat Dissection

Year 11 Biology students have been learning about the digestive system, circulatory system and respiratory system. They had the opportunity today to consolidate their learning by dissecting a rat and observing these mammalian systems up close. They all did an amazing job!
