From the Business Manager
Last Friday we hosted our inaugural Business Connect morning. This event was planned as a result of our Strategic Plan, “Creating Connections” goal, where we identified a key goal to strengthen relationships with key industries and community groups for the mutual benefit of students and businesses. We were delighted to have more than 20 businesses and almost 30 people attend the morning.
Moama Anglican Grammar recognises the importance of developing strong, positive and effective partnerships between schools and business, particularly as this can contribute greatly to students successful learning and development.
It was a real pleasure to hear from two past MAG students. Isobella Lucic is now employed as Acting Manager Planning Services at Murray River Council, and graduated from MAG in 2014. Isobella was impressed with how the school has expanded its offerings to students in recent years. When Isobella graduated she commenced a Nursing Degree, however then changed direction into Town Planning, and worked and studied full time. She has recently returned to her home town to work in Moama. Connor Bacon, who graduated in 2020, also provided an engaging presentation. Connor undertook a 2 year Retail School Based Traineeship at McDonalds during his final two years of School. He is now in a senior management role at McDonalds and his employer explained that he has “leap frogged” through various stages of management training programs in the last eighteen months. Past Board member, parent and employer of MAG graduates, Mark Pearce, also presented. He noted the significant expansion in alternative pathways that are now available to students.
We also had the opportunity to hear the impressive musical skills of the School's Jazz Band and Junior Choir, both of whom were eager to perform in front of an audience.
Various employers in attendance expressed their strong interest in working with the School to provide opportunities for our students. We look forward to planning a similar event for 2023.
The Deniliquin Bus trial appears to be very successful. I would welcome any feedback from parents. We will be in touch towards the end of next week, however at this stage the current arrangements are likely to remain in place for Term 3.
