The Carroll Cup WINNERS

At last!! A massive congratulations to our victorious Carroll Cup team on their fantastic win on Monday night. Following two very narrow defeats against Mater Dei in previous years, it was our time to shine.

Led by co-captains, Angus Cummin and Tom Anderson, our boys played outstanding attacking football in the first half to lead by 31 points at the main break. A big pat on the back for our back six, led by Jack Sase, who held the opposition goalless in the first half. The second half became a real battle of wills and the Kildare boys were more than up to the task and held on doggedly to their lead until the final siren. As the hooter sounded the players celebrated and were swamped by Kildare supporters flooding onto the field. The final score read KCC 6-5-41 to MDCC 4-5-29.

As coach, I could not have asked the boys for more commitment or courage. Their will to win was matched by their desire to play for each other and to do their best for themselves and the College. Ryan Allen was deservedly awarded the Mark Gooden medal for ‘best on ground’, and he was ably supported by twenty one team mates who all gave their best. From Riley Corbett’s dominance in the final quarter to Mitch Bloomfield’s phenomenal efforts throughout the match, Kildare boys showed up for every challenge.

I would like to thank the 26 boys who participated throughout the competition as well as the staff who helped out, especially Ryan Price, who did a power of work with these boys as well. Also, a huge thank you to the large crowd of supporters, students, families and staff who braved the chill of Robertson Oval on Monday night. The result warmed our hearts.

Mission accomplished.

Yours in footy
