Performing Arts

Welcome to the 2020 Performing Arts Program

Whether new to Pius or returning, the Performing Arts staff welcomes everyone to our program. Studies show that learning to play a musical instrument, acting, singing, composing and dancing offer enormous benefits to a child’s brain functioning and health. With this in mind, we encourage all boys to get involved in 2020.

New Member to our Team, Mr Paul Taylor

The Performing Arts Department cordially welcomes Mr. Paul Taylor to our team.  Paul is a highly qualified Music teacher who currently also teaches at Barker College and Ravenswood. Paul offers expertise in strings, music technology and curriculum development and we look forward to him working with our Years 5-8 Music classes, Choirs and String Ensembles.

OnSTAGE @ The Seymour Centre

Students in Years 10, 11 & 12 will be heading to the Seymour Centre on Tuesday evening to see the outstanding performances from the 2019 High School Certificate. These will include 4 Individual and 5 Group performances as well as a showcase of project work which includes Costume & Set Design, Director’s Folio and Poster and Program Design. This is an invaluable part of our learning in Drama and so important for the students to see what they are aiming for. Boys in Year 10 & 11 will write a theatre review of one of the performances that inspired them.

Year 11: Movement Theatre

On Friday in Periods 1 & 2, students will take part in the first of two incursions in the Sarto Centre. They will be workshopping the theatrical techniques of the internationally renown Jacques lecoq. We are lucky enough to have Guilluame Barrier (NIDA) working with us and guiding the boys through their movement work. Guillaume trained with Lecoq in Paris and is an invaluable coach and mentor for the Year 11 students. He will return in March to see the material the students have created for their upcoming project and performance.
