Science Club

The SPX Science Department is proud to announce the commencement of a Science Club in 2020.

The main goals of Science Club are to provide an opportunity for students to: learn more advanced Science, do fun experiments and activities, discover their favourite branch of Science, to Pursue their Passion and to offer Strength in Support.

Science Club will be mainly for Year 7 and 8 students who have a keen interest in Science along with a group of similar-minded senior students and staff. It will run every Thursday Day 4 lunchtime in S2 and will involve a variety of Science activities.

Some of the suggested activities planned for 2020 include: many and varied Science experiments, scientific discussions about new and relevant discoveries, YouTube videos on scientific phenomena, scientific demonstrations and senior project showcases… to name a few.

Come along and share your love of Science with us!

National Youth Science Forum

From 8 to 18 January, I was privileged enough to spend ten days at the University of Queensland, where I engaged in the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF). The experience connected myself and 200 other Year 12 students from across Australia with leaders in scientific research and communication, and allowed us to engage firsthand in activities relating to STEM fields of our interest. Though beyond the diversity of lectures and facility tours, the NYSF renewed our understanding of careers in science, making us realise how diverse STEM careers have grown to be. I highly encourage any current Year 11 students interested in STEM to consider applying for the NYSF – applications open in March. I’d also like to extend my gratitude to Mrs Schuster for her support throughout 2019 in my application of what was a truly developmental experience.

John McDonald (Year 12) was also selected to attend the NYSF in Canberra.  Unfortunately, due to the bush fire crisis the Canberra forum was cancelled.

Chinese Club

Chinese Club aims to be a place of fun and opportunity, for students to explore activities, try foods and play sports and games related to the Chinese culture.

Each term, we will explore a different aspect of Chinese culture - Arts and Crafts, Food and Drinks, Games and Activities, Song and Martial Arts. This program aims to provide a meaningful and fun way to enrich and develop the cultural awareness of individuals living in today’s diverse society.

Chinese club will run on Day 5 and Day 10, during lunch time from 1pm in Room D1.

Please see below attachment for further information on the weekly program.

If you are interested in joining, please see Ms Lee to register your name.

Bus Service Adjustments - Inner West routes

There are minor timetable adjustments of some school services on Inner West bus routes from Sunday 9 February.  Students are encouraged to plan their trip to see if these timetable changes will impact the way they currently travel to and from school.  More information including timetables, maps, Trip Planning and school service details is available at transportnsw.info or on the Transit Systems website - – transitsystems.com.au.

Student Opal Card Reminder

All students should be aware of the conditions of the use of their Opal Card, and the importance of carrying and using their card whenever they travel.

It is a condition of travel that all students tap on with their Student Opal card every time they board a bus, train or ferry and tap off when they alight.  This allows Transport for NSW and transport operators to assess the patronage of services to ensure that resources are used efficiently and meet customer demand.
