A great privilege

Thank you

To Cecil Hills High School, staff, students, parents and wider community -  it is with great honour that we, Jarrod Carluccio and Julina Ngov officially address you as School Captains of Cecil Hills High School for 2018. This new role will bring  challenges and obstacles which we are both willing and excited to overcome. Both of us have held leadership positions in previous years but this role is by far the most humbling and rewarding.

We would first like to formally thank the student body, teachers and staff members for supporting us  and we hope that our future endeavours to fulfil this role makes you proud. Also, we give thanks to our former school captains, Matt and Kristy for modelling what a positive and influential leader should be. We are looking forward to working in collaboration with the other

students appointed into the Student Representative Council (SRC), with the intent to improve the wellbeing and schooling experience of everyone associated within our school community. Although the demands of Year 12 are quite daunting, the role of school captaincy is a great privilege and we will delegate our utmost effort into representing our school in a manner which reflects the values and expectations of Cecil Hills High School.

Despite only holding the role for a few weeks, we have already been granted the opportunity to expand on our leadership skills, knowledge and experience. Last month, the Year 12 SRC’s and the senior leadership team attended the National Young Leaders' Day in Darling Harbour. The seminar included guest speakers, including the Gladys Berejiklian (Premier of NSW) John Coutis, Adam Goodes and Andrew Scipione. The variety of speakers from different fields allowed us to recognise the flexibility of leadership and taught us how the act of leading alone does not suffice. It reinforced to us the significance of working as a team and knowing when to take a stand for something we believe in. Through shared experiences, their wisdom and past endeavours has motivated and inspired us to fulfil our potential as young leaders. We are extremely grateful that we were able to share this experience alongside our peers who will also lead our school in the year ahead.

Currently, the SRC is working extremely hard to plan and implement a Fruit Day on  22nd November (Wednesday, Week 7). This initiative is aimed to increase the wellbeing of students and promote healthy eating. Students are encouraged to bring in fruit to share with other students.

Thank you. We're looking forward to a great year.
