Shakespeare and Acoustic Night

The Year 11 Theatre Studies and Certificate III Music students have been working on their craft all year, and on Wednesday May 19 students showed off their hard work. Supported by the Year 1 Technical Production students, we opened the doors of the Crate to friends and family.

Playing for the first time in front friends and family at Sydenham, our Year 11s took up the challenge with zeal. The year 11 Theatre Studies students took us back to the 1500s, showcasing some of Shakespeare's best work from Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. Performers seamlessly switched between costumers, characters and language to put together a fantastic performance.

After a short intermission, the VET Music students took to the stage, performing songs from the past 50 years, all minus amplification. Having developed every aspect of the performance from set to costuming to staging, this was the culmination of a term worth of work. From Sweet Home Alabama to Geronimo, Chameleon to Pretty Hurts there was something for everyone.

We would like to thank everyone involved in the night - Wendy Smith and the year 11 theatre class, the Year 11 music class and Adam Abrahall and the Year 11 tech production class for all there work behind the scenes. Thank you to Paul Reed, Ashleigh Azzapardi and Bethany Laplsey for volunteering to start the night off with a BBQ. We also raised $125 for the Mercy Hospice Fundraising though our gold coin entry fee.

Thank you everyone for attending and we can’t wait to see you at events next term.

Taylors Lakes Hotel 25th Anniversary Community Celebration

The Taylors Lakes Hotel has been a fixture on the Melton Highway for 25 years. To celebrate this, Terry Gunn and the Taylors Lakes Hotel Management opened the doors of the Hotel to the community on the weekend of June 4th and 5th.

Adding to the event, CRC students Dylan Hotriem, Mikhaela Cugliari, Lorenzo Atonio and Geraldine Vytilingam volunteered entertained audience in the Starlight Room on Saturday afternoon. Joined by VCE bands for Taylors Lakes Secondary College and Keilor Dance Studio, students had the opportunity to perform 30 minute sets.

Dylan opened for the College, with just his guitar and loop pedal in hand. Singing tracks by Bill Withers, Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder and John Mayer, Dylan’s acoustic set got a fantastic response from the audience. The College’s second set included current pop hits by the likes of Justin Beiber, the Script and Meaghan Trainor. Geraldine and Mikhaela did a lovely job entertaining the audience. The finally with the addition of Lorenzo to perform “The Prayer” was a great way to end the day.

Congratulations to the students for their involvement in the day. They represented the College beautifully and received nothing but positive feedback from other performers and the audience. We would like to sincerely thank Taylors Lakes Secondary College for sharing their equipment and the day. Also, thank you to the Taylors Lakes Hotel for the opportunity.
