TRUGANINI Cluster News

National Reconciliation Week
The Truganini Cluster has been busy over the last fortnight with all students preparing for the mid year exams and completing their various SACs. In the meantime, the students and teachers must be congratulated for their efforts of working behind the scenes in the spirit of Truganini. Last week we recognised National Reconciliation Week by having a controlled campfire on the College Green. Along with the Indigenous flag. Many thanks for everyone that ensured the success of this last Wednesday 1st June. In particular, the maintenance staff for preparing the equipment and ensuring that all safety measures were adhered to. Campfires are important hubs of the community where people gather and information and food is shared. Fire is used for creating a sense of togetherness, a sense of belonging, strengthening identity. Cultural knowledge is often maintained when people gather around campfires (e.g. stories, ceremonies). Fire is used for cleansing and purification. Last week we remembered the history of indigenous Australians, and especially the spirit of Truganini as her character demonstrates Justice Empowerment and Reconciliation.
The staff and students gathered together on Thursday 26 May to cook bacon and egg muffins to raise money for St Mary’s House of Welcome refuge. Whilst it was a cold and wintry day, many thanks to Jake, Mikaela, Emma, Chloe and all of the tutor leaders who pitched in during recess to cook and clean up for the cluster. We raised $250 in the short time. A special thanks to Paul Reed who provided his support in the venture.
Finally, it is with great pride that Adrian and I congratulate the Truganini Cluster on making the grand final in Cluster sports: soccer. The grand final will be held on 14 June. We look forward to witnessing a game full of competitiveness and great sportsmanship.
