St James Wellbeing Week  Mon 21st August - Thursday 24th August

Next week is our inaugural St James Wellbeing Week. On Monday 21st August, all the students will gather in their house colours and eat lunch together.

On Tuesday there will be sporting activities held in the hall/playground at recess and lunch.

On Wednesday there will be a Community Learning Assembly in the hall, where  and the Wellbeing Leaders will be holding a guided meditation and reflection. After this the TOMs students will share their brilliance with us. Parents are warmly invited to join us.

On Thursday the whole school will contribute to a rainbow theme  by wearing casual clothes in their assigned colour:

Year 6 will wear red, Year 5 will wear orange,

Year 4 will wear yellow, Year 3 will wear green,

Year 2 will wear blue, Year 1 will wear purple and Foundation will wear rainbow. The students may wear as much or as little as they would like. There will be a certificate for the best dressed person in each class. Each child in the school will be divided into Prep to Yr 6 groupings and experience 3 different Wellbeing Activities between 9-11:00am.

To help us celebrate St James Week, the Parents Association are providing lunch for all students and staff on this day.  The lunch will consist of a slice or two of pizza, fairy bread and a juice box.  If your child has allergies, please pack their lunch as usual.  Thank you to the Parents Association, under the guidance of Annie O'Donoghue, who support our school and community every step of the way.  If any Parent Helpers are available to assist with distributing lunch, please contact /text Annie O'Donoghue on 0439 550939.

After lunch there will be a St James Feast Day Mass at 2:30pm in the School Hall.   At the end of the day there will be a little surprise for the students. We warmly invite Parents, babies, toddlers and grandparents to join us in our celebrations.

The purpose of this week is to celebrate all that is amazing at our school, St James. The culmination of this week is to celebrate Mass with Fr Martin and thank God for the many wonderful opportunities that we have in our lives. Then all of us except the teachers, get to have a school free day on Friday 25th August.

Wishing you all a positive and growth mindset week next week.

Confirmation

Over two nights last week the Year 6 children received the Sacrament of Confirmation or Confirmation Blessing. It was a special evening for the children spent with their peers and families. The children conducted themselves reverently throughout and all sacramental learning opportunities. Thank you Lucas Johnson, Teri Orengo, Cathy Ferrari and Liam Buckley for preparing our children so beautifully.

Eucharist

This weekend marks the end of our six First Holy Communion Masses. Congratulations to all children who received the Sacrament or a blessing. Photos to follow in the next newsletter!

Confirmation and Eucharist Reflection Day Lunch

An enormous thank you to the Year 3 and Year 6 Parent Rep's for coordinating the Reflection Day lunches. Also, a big thanks to parents who helped on the day or contributed decorations or dessert. It was an absolute highlight for our children made possible by your generosity of time and effort.

St James Feast Day Mass

On Thursday 24th August at 2:30pm we will be celebrating the Feast Day of St James with Mass in the hall. It would be wonderful if you could join us in this special celebration.

Seasons for Growth

Seasons for Growth is a innovative grief and loss education program that uses the imagery of the seasons to illustrate the experience of grief.  It aims to strengthen the social and emotional well being of children who are dealing with major life changes including death, separation, divorce and other significant losses by:

exploring the impact of change and loss on every-day life

learning new ways to respond to these changes.

I have successfully implemented Seasons for Growth at our school last year and I will be running a group with children in Term Three. If you think your child may benefit from the small group support program or are interested to hear more please email me as soon as possible.

Many thanks,

Stacey Nelson
