Diverse Learning Update

Fortunately, due to the technology we have in place, the Diverse Learning staff are still able to provide support to teachers and students during another period of remote learning. Although it will never be the same as working face-to-face, collaboration has still taken place as we work together as a department to ensure learning experiences are positive and any difficulties that students are experiencing can be worked through.

At this point in the term, the Department have been busy supporting Year 12 students online as they complete their final assessments, and this support will continue for the Year 11 students in the coming weeks.

In other areas, I would like to congratulate a group of students who completed the Future Problem Solving Competition online. Thomas Coorey, Daniel De Pasquale, Jeremy Simonetto and Luke Sultana from Year 9 were given the challenge of solving an environmental issue over the course of two and a half hours, working together on Micorsoft Teams. It was a pleasure to listen to the ideas of these students as they worked, which demonstrated, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. It was a very different way to complete this stage of the competition, but they managed it extremely well.

Ms Viney has continued her great work with Year 5 students and taken philosophical thinking online. Students have explored concepts such as fairness, ownership of resources, and human identity. They are sharpening their critical thinking skills as they share their own ideas and listen to the opinions of others in the quest to understand various aspects of our world.

Philosophy Club has been open to Year 7 students this term and a group of students meet online each Wednesday. Students have discussed a range of issues such as identity, memories, and privacy. These students have also impressed with their ability to share ideas online and listen to the opinion of others as they engage in critical thinking.

If any students require additional help or have questions about aspects of their learning, they are encouraged to make contact through one of the following addresses: a.turnerjensen@spc.nsw.edu.au; janine.timillero@spc.nsw.edu.au
