Deputy Principal, Teaching and Learning

Do you see what I see?

Henry Thoreau said: “It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see”.

A friend of mine who is an artist and has a unique way of looking at the world posted this quote online. She has been separated from her family. COVID-19 has disconnected her from being with those she loves. I know this is true for many of us. We have missed milestones and celebrations and we have had no one to share them with. But during the chaos and confusion of COVID -19 there is an opportunity to see – to see things differently.

When I look at our College community, I see teachers and students and parents, all working together to try and overcome the overwhelm of lockdown and continuous remote learning. I see teachers celebrating the small wins: a great class conversation, the use of new technology, a one-to-one video consult. I see parents offering their children compassion and acceptance. I see students asking after each other and speaking words of encouragement.

Many parents will remember Hunters and Collectors, “Do you see what I see?” https://youtu.be/civzfZ_3uVc May you see things differently this week as we work together in the final weeks of the term, to engage each child to learn and reflect and see what is happening in the world around them.

Following the Premier’s update this week, it is liley that our RLP 6.1 will continue to the end of the term. Our continuous Remote Learning Program will focus on encouraging students to have their cameras on, having less time on screen where possible and maintaining connection with students and teachers. Our best thinking at this time is to continue to offer an Independent Study Day but in Week 9 and 10 this will move to Monday (Day 1 and 6), so that the same classes are not impacted.

VCE staff will continue to find ways to finalise SACs, as courses are completed and revision for end of year examinations commence. The GAT has now been scheduled for Tuesday 5 October.

Middle Years students are encouraged to use the record book to document work tasks and stay focused.

Thank you for supporting our RLP 6.1. If you have suggestions about how we can refine our program and better serve our students, please reach out.

VCE Assessments & GAT

Students studying VCE Unit 3&4 subjects are now preparing for their final School-Based Assessments, with many studies near to completion and ready to commence examination preparation. The next two weeks will provide an important opportunity for students to dedicate a significant amount of time to consolidating their learning and finishing their Unit 4 studies strongly.

The VCAA have advised that the GAT will now be scheduled for Tuesday 5 October at 10am. The Victorian government are strongly encouraging all students sitting the GAT to have received at least their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination. Further information will be sent to schools next week, and we will provide updates.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via email or Teams.
