Partnership is giving, taking, learning, teaching, offering the greatest possible benefit while doing the least possible harm. ― Octavia E. Butler,

This week, I invite all Year 10-12 parents to a series of important ZOOM meetings next Tuesday 7 September (further details and links will be emailed to families).  Key staff and I would like to update you on important developments and share some valuable strategies to help your children in their final preparations for the VCE.

Last year, at this very time, I shared with families the fascinating work of American science system thinker Professor Peter Senge. In his book The Fifth Discipline: he shared: “through learning we re-create ourselves. Through learning we become able to do something we never were able to do. Through learning we reperceive the world and our relationship to it. Through learning we extend our capacity to create.”

Such powerful, liberating statements that highlight the important role education holds in our society.  As I reflected on Professor Senge’s comments and our recent past, I firmly believe that we can confidently substitute RLP for his learning and make the same bold claims:

Through RLP we re-create ourselves. Through RLP we become able to do something we never were able to do. Through RLP we reperceive the world and our relationship to it. Through RLP we extend our capacity to create.

The past lockdown has challenged our body, mind and soul. Following yesterday’s announcement, we will continue remote learning into next week and await for more information as to whether regional Victoria opens up earlier than Melbourne. While we all revel at the prospect of re-uniting ‘face to face’, the past eighteen months have not been wasted and rather empowered us to learn and grow in ways we never imagined!

May we all continue to be humble, patient and gentle with ourselves and those around us.
