Acting Principal's Report

Acting Principal’s Report - 2nd September 2021

I began writing this report on the weekend. It was a lovely sunny day and I was full of gratitude.

I thought how fortunate I was to be in the position of Acting Principal at my favourite school, Lyndhurst Primary. Jamie Sharp showed such excellent leadership while Greg has been on long service leave and the idea that I was in the position now was thrilling.

I was excited to think about all of the things I could say about our wonderful school and community. The joys of seeing the students onsite, the happy faces on zoom and the letters of support from our families. I wanted to share little moments such as how the quail chicks are getting bigger (and that I need to be brave and hold them in front of the students). How I have to avoid ‘visiting’ the snow peas in Mrs Howell’s veggie garden while she isn’t around.

We have had such high hopes with the anticipation of all students coming back onsite. Our school coming alive again with the buzz in the staffroom and the happy clatter of the children in the corridors.

Sadly, the news is that we are in remote and flexible learning until the end of term. I desperately feel your disappointment and I acknowledge how difficult this is for many families. I need to assure you that we will continue to be a strong community. Whilst waiting for the full physical connection we will maintain the strong bonds we have with each other. Our connection as a wonderfully supportive and trusting community stays the same. The invisible string is strong.

I believe that it is now more important than ever to practice gratitude.

I love this school.

It is only my second year at Lyndhurst and every day I am so grateful for my position here and how I can call it my school family. Greg Lacey has established such a strong culture of respect, inclusion and above all integrity with staff, students and community. We respect our families. We love the diversity and richness of the cultures within our school community. Whilst our priority is to educate your incredible children we are also empowered every day by what they teach us.

I am grateful that we are still here, there is still a (quieter) buzz in the staffroom, still a (quieter) clatter of children in the corridor…I am definitely grateful for that!

Emerging Minds is a fabulous organisation that can give families much-needed information on children’s mental health during the Covid- 19 pandemic. They address the many worries that children have in times like these as well as your own challenges with navigating home learning and staying at home together.

This is a very worthwhile link for you to review as parents/ carers. (click on the word This)

We are very grateful that we can stay connected with you and we are here for you always.

Please stay well and safe.

Moira Mc Cann (Hill)

Acting Principal.

Staffing news.

Sadly, for us, Mrs Julia Kearins is leaving Lyndhurst and is moving to Cairns. Julia has been such a well-loved and respected member of our school community for many years. She has established many close connections with staff and families during her time at Lyndhurst and her work ethic is exceptional. Her professionalism has inspired many and we are grateful for her leadership as Professional Learning Team leader in Year One. At least we know that there will now be very happy children in Cairns. We are so sad to see her leave but Julia has assured us that she will keep in touch. Good luck Julia.

We are very fortunate to welcome Mrs Kim Brnjac who will be replacing Julia. I had the absolute pleasure of teaching with Kim for many years at Woodlands Primary school. I can most definitely attest that their terrible loss is our immense good fortune. Kim is an exceptional teacher with a wealth of knowledge to share. We welcome Kim into our fabulous community.
